you have some fine photos but I am wondering if you know why this piece out of all is the best and why ?

Well, it is really difficult to find such old books still in a good condition when buying them, but I know a restaurator who can repair little traces, but unfortunately books from 19th century had too acid-containing paper which makes the pages fragile and ugly yellow

Yes, it's really difficult, especially when you're on a limited budget. But they have this Aura I find... I don't know, intoxicating almost. I don't mind it if they look ugly.

Who doesn't love an old book?
The oldest volume (currently) in my library is the complete works of Shakespeare (1930).

Thanks so much
I am sure that you can understand the title as it is a German book and called: Geschichte der Renaissance in Italien. It is an architectural book about the renaissance building style.

That is a really neat looking book.  The mottling on the cover as well as the on that first page is just really neat looking, it has this liveliness about it that contrasts wonderfully against the leather bindings and all the wear and age they show.  It's almost like looking at fun vibrant youth against old wise academia.  With the way the pages fan out has this playful feel to it which makes me thing the youthful side is winning.  That's a really cool subject for a picture.

The book stands out well from the background, there's a strong contrast along the edges and in the myriad colors that continually grabs my attention.  Though the background feels a little odd, I'm assuming the book is sitting on some sort of leather office chair, its hard to make with what is shown of the background objects.

There's a lot of shifts in the feel of the background.  The ribbed leather behind the book, the smooth leather under it, various wood textures along the right; it feels a little jumbled and I was distracted from the book for a while as I tried to sort it out.  I suppose that if it gave me reason to spend more time admiring your photo it can't really be a bad thing, and the photo did hold my attention for a good while.

My final though is that I totally want to rip the pages outta that book and put my sketch book in that cover.

Thanks so much for your detailed comment
It was in a good condition when I acquired it which is rather a seldom case for books of 19th century.

Yes, you are right. My library is included in my home office room. I did not find a better place to display contrast than to put it on my chair and to add a bit of fun I placed it so as the book was sitting on this chair. The objects in the background are mostly my wooden panel floor (parquet).

I can imagine that your beautiful sketches would find a nice place behind that cover

19th century?  I wouldn't have guessed that at all, you're right it's in fantastic condition for it's age!  Now I feel bad for wanting to spoil it to put my doodles in, something that old ought to get a bit more respect.

I think the chair was a good choice for the backdrop, the dark leather is a great contrast from the colors in the book.  Also it's an unusual spot, typically I'd expect books on a polished wood desk, the chair is a nice twist.

Yes, you caught it. It is about the history of Italian Renaissance and a special book about this architectural style.
Thanks so much
