the background; with enough detail for context, creates a nice depth.
but there is more depth to it than just technical attributes.
your expression creates a path that leads to a story.
of which, i am curious, unless it's just actiing for the photo

I wasn't consciously putting on an act. I was actually trying to keep a neutral face, but it was very windy and cold which made it very difficult. All my favourite images from this shoot were pictures where I'd "lost" control of my facial expression.

well, it does feel natural regardless. that's why i like it. when shooting people, i prefer candid.
actually, perfect poses and perfect smiles for the sake of a portrait, aren't really much of a portrait for me.
so, the story is windy and cold, and you do relay that through this image
