Hoo boy, I should really get these done faster. But yeah, May's theme was one with all official female Riders, because I wanted to try a fun theme: Redesigning. Given the opportunity, how would I approach the design? And twice in a row, Gaim content won out.
Idunn was a design with potential, but held back by the fact that it was a V-Cinema form, which often recycle existing suit parts. Apart from the skirt pieces and front of the helmet, it's basically just Kamuro with a regular version of the golden apple armor/weapons. You can even see the Gaim/Kamuro face and mouth piece underneath.
I decided to take a look back at the name Idunn to get an idea of its roots (pun intended). Idunn was a goddess of Norse mythology, so I applied a Norse style body (like Sigurd) and use that to work in new parts for the mouth piece and helmet.
Because of the godly status, and Idunn being associated with apples as a key to eternal youth, it seemed likely this wouldn't be the standard Rider. Here's where it gets interesting: I went back to a scene where Ryoma Sengoku introduces himself to Kota and Kaito, and shows them sketches of other versions of the belt, which were far more organic and creepy - I ALWAYS wanted to find a place to use that, and this felt like a good place. It's the Gold Ringo Lockseed this time, because that just seemed more interesting to me as I was coloring it. Implies some similar origins as Malus and reduces how many apple Lockseeds there are.
With the Helheim fruit in hand, I added a tattered cloak that was colored to match the fruit, adding to how unusual of a Rider this is. And in coloring her, I added some Inves followers in the back. Really paints an ominous image - in fact, III may write something with this design at some point, because I always like doing more Gaim stuff.
This was a fun one! And look forward to June's poll on the 2nd, when we have some summer fun!
