Description
This might belong in People instead but I figure it fits in Cartoons just as well.I have a friend called Alyce. People often misread her name as Alice, however. She requested something Alice in Wonderland some time last year or the year before and this is what resulted. So, behold Alyce in Wonderland. The Alyce in this does actual sort of look like Alyce in real life. Mostly you can tell it's her because those are absolutely the shoes and stockings she used to wear a lot...
I like this. It took hours and I was so scared I would smudge the pencil everywhere but it turned out good.
Related Information:
Tools: graphite pencil on standard sketchbook paper, eraser, fixative
Time: Hm. Four hours? I don't remember anymore...
Reference: a school photo to reference Alyce but nothing for the other characters.

That is incredibly cool.
Gah, look at all that brilliant detail! I love your portrayal of your friend and the book's characters. Very well done, honey. No color necessary...I think it's splendid just like this.

And yours.
I've previously commented on a few of your works before, actually.

Muchly appreciated, it is.
How's that mural coming along these days?

I haven't poked at it in a couple days except to tweak at the Ox, I'm afraid. I really want to finish it! But people keep organising social events and I've been a hermit for too long already. XD I'm still aiming to get it done by the 13th + art presents for a couple people + comic thing + competition entries. Wish me luck! D:

Aha! Yes, one must tend to the social life.....^_~
I can't wait to see the finished product. It's going to be quite spectacular. ^^
Best of luck on that list of 'to-do's, hon. Mine's grown so large it....well....it frightens me a bit, to be quite honest. Oo

Fantastic!! I love the Cheshire Cat! It's even better than the video game version, which is like the Cheshire Cat on evil. >.>
I especially love the "catarpillar" in the way back. I can't remember his real name but I love how you drew his wings and the smoke.

The Cheshire cat from that videogame is pure eeeeviiiiil. D: I never played the game but I remember the box art. So evil! Also looked quite hungry, now that I think about it.

Hehe, yeah. I wouldn't say hungry, at least not for food. More like for your sanity... or soul, whichever went first.

This is very good work. Okay, (based on the comments previously posted) no matter what you think, this piece basically is well composed, and the character design is excellent. I will grant you the fact that some of the background elements look a bit rushed. It is still very good work.

Um, thank you. I'll have to disagree on the composition, of course, as I keep seeing things wrong with it (argh, not wide enough) but that's just what I get for being the person who drew it and the kind of artist who hates their own work.
On another note altogether, I found this site on your main page very interesting.

I don't think there's an artist in existence that thinks their work is flawless. There's always a better solution, or something we forgot to fix, or a drip/smear/smudge/blot that no one else ever notices, that really bugs us.

Too true. And I always marvel that the things I notice no one else seems to pick up on. But then I think that I must do the same thing with other people's work. Best just to move on!

This is really impressive. I'm rather fond of the Cheshire cat. He looks quite mad, but then as he often says... 'Were all mad here' Or something like that anyway. Its been so long since I read Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking glass. Great piece anyway. Lovely example of lineart. n.n

Thanks. The cheshire cat is easily my favourite character. Though I liked the cards, too. And the broom-dog that was in the Disney version. Broom-dog was awesome. Actually, broom-dog was probably my favourite.
I don't think I ever read Through the Looking Glass. Another book to add to the list...

You are more than welcome. And I remember the dog! It walked along and brushed the path away. n.n
-Is also kinda fond of the Mome Rath's-

Hm, I don't recall the Mome Rath's... Unless those are the owl/glasses things. The owl-glasses were also brilliant. ...I want one.
I watched the Disney animated version of Wonderland some time ago...and realised how much plot it just did not have. The whole thing was "Alice goes to this place...and there's all this cool and inexplicable STUFF! WOOOOOOO!!1!" XD But I guess that is indeed what Wonderland is all about.

The Mome Raths are weird little things that kinda... look... Well weird. -Will draw one!- and as for Disneys animation, its a combination of Alice and Wonderland and Through the looking glass I do believe. Don't hold me to that though.

*waits for drawing of Mome Raths*
Yeah, I remember thinking once that the animation was a mix of the two. 'cause there was something that wasn't in Alice in Wonderland and someone I mentioned it to said it was Through the Looking Glass.. So probably you're right.

I never properly read Through the Looking Glass. Probably I should get around to it...but logic conundrums scared me away! (This is what I get for taking a subject in Discrete Mathematics. T_T)

Jabberwocky confuses me, L.C. really knows how to make your brain hurt through poetry. And about the Cheshire Cat... I think that'd be funny, he/she/it needs a major dose of ritalin (no clue how to spell it, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about)

I swear, with a grin like that he has to be on something.
My Discrete Maths textbook... Every few pages there was a reference to Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass . "Look kids, there's maths in popular fiction! Wow!" And so, the book was ruined for me forever. -_-

Whiiiiiiiiii! Alice in the Wonderland is one of my favourite boks. And like you said, the expressions in their faces are great! You really are talented! Do you have plans for coloring this?

Mamath In reply to Inotti [2005-01-24 17:01:24 +0000 UTC]
I've thought about colouring it before but I think I would ruin it. XD I'm much better at black and white than colour. But I'm getting better!
When I get up the courage to apply colour to this I absolutely will, though. Some day I'd like to blow it up, print it in blue, ink properly over the top, and scan it in again for colouring. Or possibly colour it in pencil. Pencil might be a better idea. I get along better with pencils than computers at the moment. Still learning computer stuff. T_T
Thank you! I'm happy that Alyce and I aren't the only ones who like it.
