Description
Finished him today! Yeah! Can't believe I posted the Work-in-Progress at the end of March and only get around to finishing him now! D:It's Ichigo, from BLEACH. If you aren't up to around chapter 165 (6? 7?) of the manga though then I guess this is sort of a spoiler. <_< Uh... not sure if the Visored stuff will ever show up in the anime, though. They're really different so maybe not? Well, you'll figure it out.
It took so long to paint him. And get him off the wooden base I had him on before (He stands by himself! Score!). I learned lots of stuff from this one (first time making a figure ever) so the next one will be better.
--
Super Sculpey, arcrylic paint, wire... lots of small brushes. And patience. LOTS of patience.
Time: Lost track... Definitely in the dozens of hours though. D: I'll get faster, I swear!
Ichigo and BLEACH are © Kubotite. And probably Vis... and Shonen Jump, I think. Not mine, anyway. I just make crappy models.

I WANT TO MAKE ONE!!!! ....
okay so not an ichigo... Though He's Awesome!!!
I want to instead make my own OC.... cause that would be cool... I know how too... but don't have a way to fire it after I'm done... yes I could use the oven stuff... but I don't like my oven... oh well....

There's really nothing wrong with using a standard oven. Sculpey clay is supposed to be used in an oven. I think if you put it in a proper firing kiln it would burn pretty badly. x)

well yeah... but the type of oven I have... well it scares me... (It's a gas oven) o_O
I like regular ol' clay anyhowz... I'm just use to using it more... there's a place that help you make stuff... I'll go by there sometime and see if they can help me out...

O wow your first creation is fantastic
xD Very much like the character.Though I'm wondering did you paint in Ichigo's eyes or did your molded them in? Just a thought if you could mold anime eyes or if its limited to paint on only.Though I can't wait to check out your other clay models too!

The eyelid and eyeball are sculpted, though the detail (iris, pupil, etc) on the eye are painted. I suppose you could use glass eyeballs or something if you didn't want to do any painting at all.
I have made any new models in ages, tbh. Sculpey is sort of expensive and I'm sort of poor (both money-poor and time-poor). T_T

Haha, well I don't know how well a sculpture would work on a video... Unless it was a cool moving sculpture, I guess.

Ah, when I made him there hadn't yet been any art released of his Visored form's colours so I had to guess.

Oh My Gosh! I have that same Polly Pocket House in the background! Never got rid of that childhood toy.
Simply love the figure though. I've thought about doing my own but I was thinking more bust-style.

Bust is probably a good place to start. I'm just ambitious.
Aaah, Polly Pocket. Those were the days. <3

Haha, yeah. I've already got myself 3 more colours of acrylics (I wanted a few more but they were sold out) and I still have plenty of sculpey so this will be fun.

Heheheh, tiny and not so detailed might be the way to go! There's so many characters these days that you'd still never get them all done though.

Haha, yeah, this one is really awesome, but I'll stick to a tiny army.
I might make a more detailed one when my skills improve.

This is amazing!! =\ I tried using super sculpey before but I failed...haha, so I'm amazed at how you could do this with so much detail x.x its 2007 now so... wow!
Your skills must have improved so much!
I'm so impressed

oh, thats right - do you put it in the oven between parts?
Thats the trouble I always had haha... I'm quite clumsy so when I was making something I'd accidently push a completed bit with my finger (and groan -.-

Mamath In reply to redonions [2007-05-05 02:57:46 +0000 UTC]
I don't know if my skills have improved that much... I haven't been using them. D: Maybe they ever went backwards!?
Heehee, I hear you about mushing things accidently... Or you'll lift it up to work on the under side a bit and drop it! SMOOSH! All that work smooshed flat. DX It IS possible to bake in layers! The worst that can happen to already-baked sculpey is it gets a bit singed and smelly, but that wears off. I...don't remember if I did any of Ichigo in layers. Maybe not... I remember doing research later to figure out if I could next time because Ichigo gave me so much trouble!
Another good tip is if you only want to set a tiny bit of the model so's you can't smoosh it by accident, heat it up with a hairdryer. Give it five - ten minutes and it'll be set enough to not deform at the slightest touch. ;D

whoa!! Thanks for the tips! I was wondering how people made things like rings out of sculpey without smooshing it to pieces - the hair dryer sounds really useful

When I saw the other picture, the one that's not painted, I wanted to say "It's so awesome to be the first one and turn out so good". But now, I have to say: "Are you REALLY sure that it's the first one? 'Cause it rocks!!" XDDD
I know how difficult is modeling (my first model was crap, I failed! ;___. This is perfect. Made more and you'll be freakin rich in a month or so... xDD
And if you're planning to do more Bleach characters... can I make a request? RUKIA!! Please do Rukia-chan!!!! *dances around the room* xDDDD

Mamath In reply to AnneMoody [2007-02-05 04:04:07 +0000 UTC]
Haha, thanks! Definitely the first model/figure I've ever made. I've made other things in all kinds of clay before though so I'd had some practice sculpting which would have helped a lot. :3
I am planning to do more Bleach characters but it takes so long and sculpey is so expensive so I still haven't. I really want to though! I'll keep Rukia in mind for that elusive day in the distant future when I have the time and materials for it... I've had reguests for Renji too.

I'm completely ignorant of manga/ anime and I don't know who this character is at all (sorry!) but I still think it's a great little model! Actually, how big is it? It's hard to tell from the pic.
I like the way the clothes are moving and the way he's standing. At first I thought he was wearing a Tiger mask which is why I thought you might like to look at one of my models I made a while ago.[link]
