Description I read a fan theory somewhere that the windigos in the Hearths Warming Eve episode were a metaphor for nuclear winter. Strife causing winter clouds to block out the sun, starving everyone because nothing can grow. I'm not sure if that was explicitly the show writers' intention, but the thought does make the things a bit more intimidating.

Not that they need to be tied to nuclear winter to be awesome as mythological bad guys. I mean, evil spirits of winter and starvation (and cannibalism, but you can't really blame Hasbro for leaving that part out). Forget Discord and Chrysalis. The Windigos are the best villains in MLP.

MLP: FiM and the characters in it belong to Hasbro.

[Edit] Well, hello there, you sexy, sexy EQD feature!

Who are the ponies in this picture?
I think I recognize FS and Twilight, but I can't quite make the other yellow/orange bits out.

Well, can you think of anyone that might hang around Twilight and Fluttershy who is orange and yellow?

It's like the King of all Windigos is confronting Clover, Smart Cookie, and Pansy about their Fire of Friendship. Can their friendship last against such cold hate?

Another reason why the Windigos are so cool (no pun intended) is the fact that they're so alien and inscrutable. You can't even tell what they're thinking, or whether or not they feel hatred towards the warm-bloods or are just chillingly dispassionate. Beyond feeding on hatred, their motivations - and indeed their very minds - are unknown, and the Unknown can be surprisingly scary...

Indeed. There's something to be said for the fact that the Windigos never speak, or show any emotion at all.

Well I also heard about that theory here in my shcool [take that anti-bronies society], and taking the Windingos as the best villians, is interesting.
[Is there any fanfic about that?]

The intention may not have been there, but that episode makes a great metaphor. It certainly makes this image more powerful.

Yes good, i love that you put some normal sized ponies in the lower left for scale, most people forget to do stuff like that. Well done.
