Resubmit.Came back from cookies and dinner and finished this off a little more properly.
That's it! Not blowing any more time on this--I hope it looks alright to you guys. This was supposed to be a little speedy thing--and I guess since I got it done in under a day, it still is--but I took longer than intended regardless.
There was no crazy lighting or fun things I could gimmick up with this piece to hide the fact that I can't actually render hair realistically, so--eh.
Doesn't mean I don't like it personally, I just have a feeling this is going to be one of those pieces I'll dislike in less than a weeks' time.
Such is life, haha!

Ah, and the ref [link] I think the only thing I really followed properly was the angle and the background haha. His face (and hair, obviously) is totally different fff. David's face isn't long enough for Tu...

Nice realistic skin tones and stuff though! Maybe the background needs some tightening up but I think the figure looks just rad.

Another stunning piece of work, Mana. I absolutely adore his expression, it's so natural, like someone's taken a picture without him realising. The lighting is beautiful and the anatomy is perfect - this is exactly how I pictured Tu! I think more variety of hues in the skin, like blues and purples in the darker areas, especially under the chin, and more texture to the skin, like running a spackled brush over areas of the forehead and cheeks to create pores, would have really enhanced the realism - but the semi-realistic style works wonderfully all the same

I think the hair looks gorgeous. It's shapely and detailed and looks very real. The only thing that I see could have helped are sharper highlights, even just around the edges.

nah it's just the eyes, you get close enough to photo-realistic and that part of the brain that reads and recognizes tiny facial emotions/discrepancies kicks in. uncanny valley and all that.
