Description
Here are the layouts I sent to my editor before starting work on the cover for Red Robin. They wanted me to do an iconic shot of Red Robin, nothing too overly complicated. I believe the description was iconic action shot with a stark color background.The layouts are probably around 3 inches in height each in pencil and colors were done in either painter or photoshop...I can't really remember.

Thanks for showing your rough work, I think seeing the pencils to how an artist works is a lot of times for me, more thrilling than seeing the fully finished piece.

That is good that it sounds like you got a good art director. I have heard how much of a pain that can be.

Damn I love this cover! I love the thumbs for it, it would be cool to see some more of these make it as covers..... IF you do more covers for the book that is.

did you or the edtor choose the fina layout! frankly i couldnt choose they all look great to me!

I usually tell my editor which would be my preference but he also shows it to the Art director. I almost always do the one the art director chooses. Sometimes I'm not happy with the choice but then after completing the piece I usually have a total change of heart and it makes me realize "damn that art director is good!". There was one time though where I felt really strongly about a layout and my editor gave me a free pass..heh
