Description sketches on my 2005 sketchbook. My first sketchbook actually. When my friend Shawn and I were putting this thing together we wanted to do something different for the cover. We thought "hey! what if every cover is an original art! we leave it blank and you draw on the cover so everyone has a one of a kind sketchbook from you!" I said "yeah! awesome"... Months later we realized we can only sell them as fast as I can draw on them..heh.. lesson learned. Anyways we're actually left to under a 100 now, and thinking back on it, it made me realize that I've at least sketched on 400 of these things during last 3 con seasons..don't seem that bad except for the fact that these don't even account for every sketch or commissions I've done a con! I think I need a vacation..heh.

This is really amazing, you have serious skills! Btw, is this in Chalk and Charcoal? If so, do you have any tips?

Awesome stuff! I got one of these lovely books when it first came out. How much do you charge to draw on them at cons? It would be nice to put something on the cover I heard that you'll be at the fan appeciation con in Toronto, which I'll be attending on the 19th

The covers look great! How do we get a sketch book?

[link] you can find them here. However we don't take sketch orders on them other wise if I were to do sketch to order it'd kill my work schedule! So unfortunately sketched on covers are only available at cons. However we do put up online some left overs from the con for sale on that site so you sorta just have to keep your eyes peeled or sign up on the mailing list since my art rep does regular upates.

Pretty cool concept for a sketchbook. The drawings are fantastic, which I would assume put a lot of smiles on faces.

what's really hot about this concept and the fact that you're still doing them is that YOU'RE STILL DOING THEM! this is a sketchbook that is 3 years old and people still want it! you gotta be proud!

the Power Girl is outsatanding °3°

by the way, if you still got one left and if you have time to sketch the cover, I could order it (if you sell them via the internet, but maybe you keep them for the cons....)

heh thanks! well from this site [link] you can order sketchbooks however due to the nature of the cover we only sell the covers blank. Sketching to order would just kill me! What we usually do is whatever was left from the cons with sketches on them we put them up online for sale. otherwise it's kinda of a con only thing if you want a cover request.

Wow, that many. The idea wasn't so bad the problem was that you mass produce it. If you REALLY considered making it a limited edition it would've been better. Let's say half of your copies, I'm assuming you got 500, so 250 of them had the special cover. You could sell them a bit more expensive (like $10 more) than the one with the regular cover. So obviously you wouldn't sell out of either at one con but you would sell more of each that way. At least that's what I think as I haven't had the experience behind the table. Hardcore collectors might even get both. Another idea is to have like 20 already drawn of characters you get asked to draw anyway.

Those two look really good.

yeah we stuck with one cover cause we didn't want to do "variants" also since we went to a print house the more your print the better discount they give. A second cover would have meant a second printing which would drive the cost up. We learned with our second sketchbook which we put a cover on and I left an empty space in the back with a box for me to draw in. And yeah my art rep has suggested that I draw some in advance to display at cons and its a fantastic idea since they always get snatched up so its less I have to draw at cons...or is that just more time for sketches for others..anyways it's a good intent to do advanced sketches but after drawing pages upon pages for work the last thing I want to do is draw some more... this week though my art rep laid out 5 of them on my desk and he suggested I do them as warm ups before I work..so far I've done 2 we'll see how the rest of the week goes..lol. thanks for the advice though they will not fall on deaf ears.

Right didn't think of the printing costs. That's where experience kicks in eh. Thank you for reading, I'm a big fan of your work and wish you the best.

thanks! hey I think you have a good idea it's just at the time it was our first sketchbook and we wanted to keep the cost low. Your idea is definitely something we've thrown around for in the future. thanks again!

That was good advice by your art rep. I came by at the end of the Emeraldcity con and snagged a WonderWoman. The only thing you had to do was personalize it and I was a happy man.

ahhhhh i just got that stuff in the mail!! at first we were like "whoa, that's a coincidence that he put brainiac on the cover of this one and saturn on this one... OH MY GOD THESE ARE ACTUAL, ORIGINAL PICTURES! AHH" Oh man, that is SUCH a cool thing to do! i've never seen such a personalized sketchbook before! i sketch in the ones i do but the idea of original covers is SO COOL!!! also, it really says something about your work ethic! a lot of artists would draw something with their left hand half awake but these are really amazing pictures you give people!! so.. thanks!! and for all the other cool stuff like agnes' prints and the amazing comics! AHH!

good to hear you got the stuff! I wished I had gotten more time to do your sketches but I had to do them before I left for Pittsburgh con. I'm glad you enjoyed them though just a little thank you for hooking me up!
