Thank you! I put reflective material behind the gem and the reflecting light caused the gem to glow like that at certain angles

That gem is amazing looking! Do you work with dichoric glass?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MandarinMoon In reply to Sleetwealth [2009-03-09 22:05:48 +0000 UTC]

I Looooove dichroic glass but this is just an iridescent glass gem that I put foil behind....guess it does give a similar effect eh?

Sleetwealth In reply to MandarinMoon [2009-03-10 01:43:08 +0000 UTC]

Yes is does. I have a bag of irridencent glass cubes, but they look silvery instead of colors in the light. I showed my hubbie too and he was in luv!

I think he has to find somethign to make that really inspires him. But I hope he does soon. Im working on several peices right now. My problem is I get part way through and I have to stop to make a commission.

Before reading your comment I saw a natural well in the forest, with the trees reflecting in the water. I can see the pod now too.

You should run with this! If you haven't already, you could could do a whole series of "pod" pieces. Rather than the 'Alien' connotations I see more of a steamy jungle floor image. There's that wonderful surprise element with any bursting pod, as to what's inside. Alien changed that image for ever, sadly (though a classic film). We only ever see pods bursting opening as something scary. You could redress the whole situation. How many other things have been spoiled by movie history:- The sea and 'Jaws', robots and 'Terminator', computers and '2001', the list goes on. hang on a minute I could do domething with this idea! Forget I said anything!! Cool piece though, as usual.
