"What’s new:
– Point-Cloud-export in the BulbTracer-module, which is able to generate very nice models in high resolution in a short time,
even with color (which is currently a limited feature).
This mode is now the default mode in the BulbTracer, with a initial volumetric resolution of 256, which is nice to play around,
because it is not too slow, but often creates nice models.
For creating a final mesh, a volumetric resolution of 2560 is not unusual, as the new mode is fast and takes not too much memory.

To use the old way of generating mesh consiting of vertices and faces, choose “Mesh” as Mesh Type)
– updated the huge JIT-formula.pack (“EM_JIT_M3Formulas”) from Alef from fractalforums.com

Have fun!"

I have a bit contributed to this (“EM_JIT_M3Formulas”). The only problem is that I would not see an images made by my formulas The same was for UF formulas I had seen a remake of them but only some 2 works made by them.

Hi there, I've gotten this message a couple of times: Plyfilewriter.savetofile: error writing file. (V.R of 256). Also I tried to convert a grid orb into a mesh in Meshlab and it made a watertight mesh in the process (no holes whatsoever). Any input?

Sounds great - this feature seems to result in less stepping - however I didn't succeed yet in converting the resulting point cloud to a usable mesh. (Creating normals and applying poission disc subsampling in MeshLab (instructions found on the web) failed with various problems.
So I'm wondering how to get the cloud into the renderer of my choice - does somebody know?

Hi Schmiegel, I came across this site today (en.wikiversity.org/wiki/MakerB… ), maybe it's useful to you. I agree in the stepping thing (you lose so much detail in the smoothness), but I'm not at all convinced of the wonderfulness of this just yet.

Thank you for pointing me there but unfortunately I always get the same errors. Bad normal orientation of the point cloud, bad surface sampling with regards to normals and detail.

Hi Schmiegel. I studied point clouds for a while and I know alot what's happening in MB3D. It's exporting slowly. The clouds have integer points. so there is stepping. It forgets normals on the bounding box, so if you cut a sphere in the voxel preview, it will be missing the flat half of the sphere, and no program can mesh the cloud, the biggest error of mb3d perhaps. I have programmed an app that uses with V1.89 image stack exports, which are normalized to integer BW values too, but at least my version is fast and it doesnt make errors on the bounding box. If others use it to render 3D, I will complete the GUI which is just a preview. www.fractalforums.com/windows-…

Hi Mrz00m,

thanks a lot for sharing your development work here and on FF! I can't fathom how much work is needed to create such an app!

I had a look at the fractalforums and I have to admit that usage to me appears is a bit like a challenge.
Of course that's not a surprise because it's an early development shot. (A bit sad though that no one commented on FF!)

The first thing that came to my mind is (sorry for the mean question and not investigating my self!) - does the additional normal export of MB3D 1.99 close the gap your work was meant to jump in? With MB3D 1.99 poisson cloud export and subsequent mesh generation in Meshlab is possible - e.g.:

As I - to be honest - don't really understand what your app does in detail - it seems your different approach offers some advantages like more speed? Maybe less stepping? 8)

I'd gladly give your app a test run if it makes sense considering MB3D1.99 and that I'm running MB3D using Wineskin on a Mac?
