She’d promised she’d be waiting for him when it was all over. He knew she phrased it carefully, phrased it so he knew that even if she did die, she would be waiting for him across the sea. But he knew in his heart she had made it. Even death couldn’t best her. It had tried. It grasped her tightly as she fell through space, determined to drag her from him, but she clawed and kicked and crawled from its icy grasp.

She found her way back to him, now he had to do the same. He’d promised to fight like hell to hold her again, and by god that was what he would do.
