Ah didn't really get that far in the book, but the introduction said there'd be a bright flash of light.

If they have SPF-1,600,000.
That will only stop the UV, though: the X-rays, Gamma Rays, thermal conduction, and the shockwave won't be stopped by hermetical balm.
