Description
I've been working on this off and on for the past week. I actually really like how this turned out. I know some of the shading is off, but I don't really care right now. It's done!

The two characters are Flying Apple and Gloomy Grey, both my own characters. If you don't want to read about the characters and only want to know about the art than just skip the next five paragraphs!

Flying Apple is obviously a member of the Apple family. However, he is the first Pegasus to be a part of the family. His cutie mark is an apple with wings because he uses his ability to fly to help with otherwise difficult chores around Sweet Apple Acres, where he works with his family.

Flying Apple, or just Fly for short, is a die-hard optimist and extremely trusting. However, this also makes him naive and very, very gullible. It takes something extreme to break his trust, however, once it's broken it can be hard to earn again. He loves to make others smile, and it's this love of making others happy that some ponies have asked if he's related to Pinkie Pie. However, he is not nearly as eccentric as she is and is too dedicated to his work on the farm to be a complete loon like Pinkie (nothing against Pinkie, that's why I love her. ). Fly is not one to back down from hard work and loves working on the farm. The only thing he loves more than working on the farm is Gloomy Grey. (Go ahead and guess who his parents are. )

Gloomy Grey is a normally depressed pony, or so she seems. Gloomy is not so much depressed as she is sad. She loves the rain; it is her most favorite thing in the whole world. She loves it so much that she has a hard time being happy when it's not raining. This leads many ponies to believe she simply can't be happy, because it is usually sunny in Ponyville. Few have ever actually seen her smile, Flying Apple being one of them (and usually is the cause), and many assume she doesn't know how to smile. Few know the happy Gloomy that shows up with the rain.

Gloomy is usually pretty demure and almost a little pessimistic. Her cutie mark is a raining grey cloud. Many assume this is a symbol of her seemingly constant state of misery, however, it really symbolizes her love of rain and talent for single handedly (hoofedly?) creating rainstorms. Usually it takes a small team, but Gloomy does it with very little trouble. Because of this she works as a weather pony.

Flying Apple and Gloomy Grey met when they were both young. Ever since day one Flying Apple decided he would do everything he could to make Gloomy smile. It took him awhile to figure out her love of the rain. She usually doesn't tell others why she's really sad, since they usually don't understand. Fly could relate though, he also liked the rain because it allowed the apple trees to stay healthy and grow delicious apples. The two have been best friends ever since. That friendship eventually morphed into love, although it took Gloomy awhile to realize her affections for Fly were more than platonic. Fly will often call Gloomy his "Rain Princess".

About the art: I originally did this sketch --> [link] I then put in Photoshop and just went from there. I'm not going to explain everything I did. I wasn't originally going to do that type of shading where it looks kind of sketchy and not clear cut. However, I did a little experimenting about half-way through, liked it, and did it all that way. I had a lot of fun while making this. I got to experiment with rain and water. I know the shading on Flying Apple's wings isn't very accurate, but I didn't have references and was literally just winging it (no pun intended). Either way, I like it.
