Description
The Portable Artillery Support System is a medium sized missile artillery launch system. Designed to give infantry operations artillery support with minimal need to dedicate larger armored vehicles, the PASS can fit onto a specialized APC or vehicle of similar size, or with the use of a mounting platform, set directly on the ground. The PASS can fire up to 48 medium range missiles, utilizing the Imperial Star Republic's micro-rail launching system and repulsor missile technology to pack a maximum amount of firepower into a relatively small package, minimizing fuel and maximizing explosive firepower. Excess heat caused by the rail system is vented out of the top and bottoms of each launcher following a missile launch, which can be fired in one large saturation group per missile row or individually. If all missiles within the PASS are fired at once, the system will be unable to launch the second row of missiles until it has properly cooled, a process that can, depending on conditions, take upwards of several minutes or longer. To make the PASS easier to reload for troops in the field, the rear of each launcher can be easily removed by hand and each tube can be re-stocked individually by hand or all at once by a dedicated automated loader. The PASS can be manually targeted and fired by any soldier that is uplinked to it, but for maximum accuracy the PASS requires an uplink to a overhead targeting drone or satellite.

So I made a missile turret that is eventually going to end up mounted on a vehicle, but I'm still working on making non-tank ground vehicles that don't look like garbage. Since I'm not a 'car person' its actually been pretty difficult for me to figure out how to make a wheeled vehicle that has the proper body design. But I made this first and I'm really, really proud of how it came out and I want to put something up in the gallery, so here you guys go. I used the same background I made with my Centaur tank because I wanted to try mapping the textures to the background again and I also used different textures on different parts of this thing and it all came out looking pretty nice. I didn't even notice this until I went to put it up here ,but you can actually see the background reflected in the central lenses of the targeting unit! That had me pretty stoked.
Anyway, also finally a description of how my missiles work, thus why I can cram so many into small spaces. I feel like it's plausible and sci-fi enough that it justifies it. Anyway, the original inspiration for this was the little missile turret that the Tau from Warhammer 40k have to go alongside their standard infantry troops and I decided I wanted something like that as well. This looks radically different from the Tau design, but that's okay as my dudes are humans and this looks suitably realistic, so I'm again happy with it.
