Description The Typhon Dynamics Titan Hovertank is the cornerstone of the Imperial Star Republic's armored ground forces. It is a massive hover vehicle, lifted off the ground by no less than twenty-three repulsor engines and crewed by four soldiers. The Chimera variant is the primary configuration for the Titan chassis and brings to bear it's enormous hybrid cannon, a secondary kinetic shell cannon, twin semi-guided rocket pods, twin Vulcan coaxials hidden within protective sheaths and a pair or linked heavy machine guns near the hatch. On the lower chassis, the tank also include several countermeasure launchers and a third Vulcan cannon in a limited firing arc.

The Chimera brings devastating firepower to bear on targets in front of it. The result of successfully miniaturizing the internal mechanics of a IStaR warship's primary Mjolnir cannon, the Chimera's primary weapon has a multitude of firing modes and is the source of the variant's name. The Chimera's primary firing mode is a hybrid round, which uses Mjolnir technology to wrap a kinetic explosive round within a destructive energy casing. This hybrid round is both effective against targets that utilize kinetic or directed energy shielding and allows the tank to be effective against most known enemies. The Chimera has four other firing modes for it's main cannon; a basically railgun shell, a pure energy round, a singular sustained energy beam and in the event of catastrophic damage, venting it's superheated coolant through the cannon. Even when firing hybrid or energy rounds, the Chimera still makes use of railgun technology to propel kinetic shells downrange. It can use this technology to shape energy into formed shells, and focuses the singular beam for five to ten seconds, depending on core charge.

These multiple firing modes and the technology behind them give the Chimera's cannon it's distinctive shape and blue glow when firing. However, even with all of it's destructive force, the main cannon has a very limited firing arc and can largely only fire forwards. To get around this, the inclusion of a medium tank cannon which allows the Chimera to fire a kinetic round at targets above the main cannon's reach. The two can be fired together at larger targets, though mugh as the main cannon is restricted from firing upwards, the medium cannon cannot fire downward, only forward and vertically. Another downside to firing it's alternate Directed Energy Weapon modes is that they rapidly drain the tank's power core and can leave a reckless tank crew helpless when it can no longer fire it's primary weapon, or be forced into an emergency shutdown. The final mode, mass ejection of superheated core coolant is only to be used as a last resort and to provide cover for the tank crew to evacuate if there is no way to save the tank. With no coolant or manual command to override, the onboard VI will then trigger a self destruct sequence within the tank's core and destroy the tank, safeguarding it's secrets.

The Myrmidon semi-guided missiles were added largely as a infantry, light armor and aerial assault craft deterrent, the missiles have a simplistic guidance system and will typically need to be fired en-mass to strike fast moving, agile targets. They can, along with the twin linked machine guns, serve as impromptu anti-aircraft weapons. The twin linked machine guns are for defending the tank in close quarters urban combat at the expense of putting the tank's commanding officer at risk of enemy fire. The coaxial Vulcan cannon is kept sheathed until activated, as the armor plating surrounding the weapon must retract, providing a small, but exploitable gap in the Chimera's heavy armor. The Vulcan on the lower chassis is simple and straight-forward, it is simply there to mow down targets in front of it.

The Chimera can deliver punishing amounts of firepower to armored and static targets, and can wipe out reckless infantry squads. It is a massive juggernaut that perfectly sums up the IStaR military mindset of a slower advance beneath the thundering power of heavy armor.

The Titan tank chassis is the primary chassis of the IStaR military, and since it's development has been the base platform for many different tank variants, from the Chimera to anti-infantry, anti-air, long range artillery and other platforms. It is a versatile piece of military hardware that quickly proved it's detractors wrong. With a standard lift height of six feet and a uninterrupted cruising speed of 98MPH, Titan chassis is where the primary crew and Virtual Intelligence matrix are. A typical Titan crew will consist of four soldiers; a Driver, an Engineer, a Gunner, and a Commander, and they are assisted by the onboard VI which takes care of targeting for the secondary weapons on the upper section of the tank, if applicable, along with other logistics support. The Titan also boasts the heaviest armor of all the planetside based military forces, it can take a massive beating and continue towards the target. The armor is also interwoven with the IStaR's Stealthweave fivers, which can negate tracking locks and otherwise baffle sensors, though the tank's massive size and energy output makes the effect of the STealthweave negligible at best. The Titan chassis also makes use of identical hoverpods, which propel it fowards and back. These identical pods and their handling allows the tank driver the ability to instantly and accurately switch between directions on the fly.  However, these hoverpods are also the weakest area of the tank, as a good enough (or lucky enough) shot can cripple the less armored joints that allow the tank to move. While the powerful repulsor field generates a pressure wave that will knock back small explosives like grenades, the tank's largest weak spot is underneath. While still armored, a undetected mine runs the risk of disabling the tank and leaving it exposed to enemy fire. Any objects caught under the repulsor field however, be they artificial or organic, will quickly find themselves crushed flat by the powerful engines. The Titan, especially in the Chimera variant, is however very slow and while manuverable, it can be easily outpaced by lighter, faster vehicles.

Seen here, two Chimera variant Titans in desert camoflague are on patrol. The leadt tank has spotted what might be a possible threat.

So, here it is. It took me FOREVER to build this. There were several failure before I finally got the chassis to look right, and even longer to finally figure out the main cannon area. I hate the fact that this tank is a hovertank, however. I'm much more a fan of treaded and tracked vehicles. They feel more reall. But trying to model treads with DOGA was never to impossible, so now they're all hovertanks. When the idea finally came to me, I was pretty excited, as I've been wanting a tank for a very/ very long time. I know it may feel that the tank, at least in the Chimera variant, is extremely over-armed, but that was intentional. Not out of a need to 'have the best' tank, but simply to display it's size and overwhelming firepower. The Titan and Chimera variants are pretty much the planetside realization of my preferred military tactic, which is a slow advance with withering, blistering fire. I've always had a tank in my head that was shooting a starship cannon, but eventually dropped that idea as it was a bit silly. Instead I decided to scale down the mechanics and give the tank a really beefy weapon complement. I like to think that it's not perfect though. It's very strong but it's also slow and, well, a hovertank. There are limitations to what it can do with that main gun and the other weapons are largely ineffective in comparison. Without infantry support, this tank could also very easily be destroyed by guerilla warfare and strategic ambushes. Get in close, and get in under the guns or simply out run it's guns and you can eventually beat it through attrition.

But regardless, there were several failures before I finally put it all together.  My closest comparisons would be the hovertank from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, the Goliath hovertank in Destiny 1, and the general size (mine is still slightly bigger) and firepower of the Siege Tank from Starcraft 2.  I've also been told that it looks like a Merkava, but I digress. Basically I'm just really, really to have a tank and that while it may be a hovertank, it's still really badass looking. Plus I can pad out my armor forces by just building new cannon sections to suit different roles now that I have a universal base from which to build from.

Quite a beast. I'd probably used simple tracks due to their reliability, but the increased mobility of hover-tech can't be denied.

Yeah, I prefer treads as well. At the time I was still struggling to make decent looking treads with my modelling program, so I decided to make it into a hovertank.

Sweet work on it, Voc. Write-up is good too.
