Description

The Wayfarer-class colony ship is a enormous colony ship designed to carry huge amounts of colonists, along with a on-board factory and storage section (along with hydroponics and limited fauna growth labs) for constructing (and growing) everything a new colony needs. These ships are designed for long term voyages to the edges on known space, with entire communities living their lives in the centrifuge section, whenever they are not stored in cryogenic stasis. Taking design cues from the Alsvidr and the original Auriga, the Wayfarer has a expanded command section with a redesigned bridge and massively expanded hangar space, along with heavier turrets for engaging in combat, while the larger size allows it to handle the complex logistics of ferrying so many souls and cargo through deep space and colonizing new worlds. Like the Alsvidr, the Nova-Auriga's command section can explosively detach from the rest of the vessel to serve as a impromptu lifeboat, and is equipped with secondary engines to ferry the module out of the combat space.

While not pictured here, Wayfarer class vessels contain secondary support and transport craft, such as the LO/AC-C Aurora, numerous Aquila and Apus class shuttles, ODMCV-7 class Myrmidon construction vessels and several defensive fighter craft.

Immediately behind the command section is the cargo and factory modules. As the Nova-Auriga is designed to travel beyond range of supply lines and normal trade routes, the factories are designed to be able to fuel construction of a new colony, from basic furniture to full on pre-fabricated colony buildings with the resources stored in the cargo bay directly behind the main factory floor. While all Wayfarer class vessels are properly supplied before undertaking their expeditions, in the event of a emergency the factories can process raw materials from space and given time and room, can construct additional Β support vehicles and even new modules for the starship itself.

The centrifuge section contains the primary civilian and crew housing within the large arms. Aside from spartan living quarters for 'roaming' personnel and civilians, the arms also contain large cryostorage areas which rotate crew and civilians in and out of cryosleep during the long journey. Hydroponics and fauna related labs are located within the fore and rear rings, along with secondary docking arms for spacecraft sending and receiving smaller amounts of crew and civilians. To assist in defensive actions, eight light turrets are installed on the habitation arms.

In the rear of the ship is engineering, which feeds power to the rest of the starship and is the location of the self-contained and powered engine cluster, which are designed to operate in Standard mode for transiting within a star system, and 'Cruise' mode, where the four heavy engines extend behind the vessel and provide faster additional thrust, allow this massive vessel to traverse the vast distances in real-space far more faster than conventional drive systems. As with all Vocian starships of sufficient size, the Nova-Auriga class is equipped with a limited Faster Than Light core, allowing it to cover the immense gulfs of space between stars.

The Wayfarer is the largest non-military starship ever constructed by the Imperial Star Republic. Seen here, the Auriga Nova is in a holding orbit around a gas giant somewhere in space.

EDIT: Changed the ship class name and switched the words around for the ship's actual name.
