Description Commission for ~jadedphoenix of Sailor Birhan Istat, Senshi of Renewal. This is my first Sailor Senshi commission, and I actually had a great time with this design - based on a phoenix nebula, so it was pretty darned sweet to play with.

$40 manga commission with limited BG. Note me if you want one.

This is a very colorfully appealing picture and the design itself is pretty fantastic. The eggshell in the background is simply fantastically done and there is little wrong with this except for a few anatomy issues.

The one I noted first was that her knees are almost flat instead of being rounded where they are bent. Normal knees don’t have many to any angles on them unless the person is incredibly all around skinny.

While the general shape of her torso is great the lines should be a little smoother on the parts when it goes in. Her chest is a little lopsided, the one behind the arm should be a little more visible underneath it to have them both be the same size.

On a small note her necklace should be a little higher up due to her neck being extended a bit.

haha - when ironing out the creases in manga-styled images, it's often easy to forget that the rules of anatomy still apply. The knees, in particular, bug me - i might go back and fix those.
Thankyou very much for your thoughtful critique. It's always nice to get a bit of input on problem areas to watch for,

Whoa, that's...damn good, hehe wow...

Love the background color palette...has that warm, sublime look to it that's a perfect fit for the "manga goddess" archetype. And it blends nicely with the figure's colors as well. The eggshell came out great too; i don't know if that's part of the character's repertoire or your own artistic license but i think it's a neat bit and well-done.

It's hard to accurately critique manga-style stuff because stylistically it adheres to certain mutations of some fundamentals, but i think this is a solid piece in that regard. Something about her left arm and the symmetry of her head seems a little disheveled. The big eyes can sometimes throw proportions off but I don't see anything here that's particularly egregious.

I know that the anime-manga style often favors the thin line, but I think in pieces like this you could really add some flavor by incorporating your own line weight sensibilities to the work. It's unfortunate that beautiful pieces like this could often be overlooked as generic manga, and I think infusing it with what i think is your more practiced "western" style (as far as lines and texture) could really help differentiate it.

But that bein said, this is a fine piece of artwork, and a subject who's quite easy on the eyes if i do say so e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

(I'ma try using the rating star system but i really don't believe in it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Lick)"/>)

ahehe - the problem with drawing on one's knees is how often the proportions get skewed. And as much as I try not to let that happen, happen it does, hence the wonky hairline.
Tis a valid point with the lineweight - I'm so used to whispy, almost ethereal lineweights for shojo manga, with a slightly bulkier sensibility for shonen. Which brings me to think that I REALLY should try using some chunkier lines, see how that works.
I can't tell you how flattered I am that you took the time out to crit. Thankyou very much!

Great use of colour, rich and moving. Very visually exciting pose too. It's not dynamic, but somehow it's awesomely eye-catching. c:

Gorgeous pic! I love the colors, very delicious

The hairline looks a bit off center (or not too much), should be slightly more to the left, I think.
