Description Today marks 100 years since the First World War had ended... In 1918 on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th Month the bell tolled marking the end of the war and peace was restored.

Today we remember those we lost, those who died to protect our countries, our fallen brothers and sisters and remembering the penalties that War brings to our world. But not just for those during the First World War, but for those who lost their lives in the Second World War, Iraq any man or woman who gave their lives.

The poppy is used as symbol of remembrance. It is said that on Flander's Field which was one of the battlefields at the time a soldier saw a poppy was growing on the dirt... and after the war ended even though the battle scars remain Flander's Field became a field of red poppies which has now become an important icon for November, always remembering.

Yesterday was also celebrated as Remembrance Day for Canada and Veteran's Day for USA. I remember celebrating the former once in 3rd grade - at 11:00 we stood in silence for 10 minutes.

Basically a holiday with a similar purpose held on the same day, but held in the USA. And yeah, we did have a moment of silence for 10 minutes.
