Description
Still focusing on Ghosts and Apparitions throughout York and Yorkshire like last week. However the Barguest isn't just mentioned in Yorkshire, this apparition is mentioned across the British Isles. From what I've read there's a specific one in the Seaside town of Whitby.Whitby is a beautiful little seaside town which goes back to Saxon times. Whitby is a Gothic town and made particularly famous for Bram Stoker's Dracula. Its mentioned in the novel that in this town, up on a hill is a ruined Abbey where he resided after arriving in this town... But that's not what we're here for tonight...Β
Whitby has its share of ghosts... People mention that in Whitby and on the moors nearby... is a creature in the form of a Huge Black Dog... called the Barguest... this Great Big Dog, pitch black and burning red eyes.... this Dog is known to trek down the narrow streets of Whitby and even run across the moors... those who hear its howl... will die the following year...
It's possible that the Barguest Myth is what inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write for one of his Sherlock Holmes books: The Hound Of The Baskerville's

Wonderful!
I know it's probably not but the dog reminds me of Labby from "where the dead goes to die" and that is scary as hell to meΒ

Yeah.Β Β It was a story my mom told was about an uncle, who, in his teen years, was rebellious and disobeyed his mother a lot. And she said one night my uncle got ready to go out and his mom told him not to because if he disobeyed, the devil would pay him a visit. So he went out and, he wasn't even that far from his house and he saw a little black dog with red eyes. Then the dog got bigger, and that was when my uncle got really scared. He ran back home, calling out to his dad and knocking on the door. His dad didn't answer him. So he called out to his mom. And his mom did heed his calls. And my uncle told her about the red-eyed dog, and yeah.
Wow, did I say all that?Β

Yeah, I know, right? I can't even begin describe how I felt. You'd have to come up with a while new word for what I was thinking. Β
