Personality
Nathan can be easily described in two words: ‘nice guy’. Generally anything this man does is done in such a way that he won’t annoy anyone or get under their feet. He has a constant air of unease about him, but don’t mistake that for cowardice; when he has to he can be iron-spined and highly efficient, doing things that would make lesser men cringe with nothing but an intensely focused expression. Of course, the payoff for that is that he has to keep working afterwards, to stop himself thinking about whatever terrible thing he just did.

He really doesn’t want to be here. It wasn’t even his choice; he was conscripted. He most likely would have tried to skip the country if his veteran soldier father hadn’t scared him straight with (as it turned out later, fake) stories of what happened to draft-dodgers. Therefore Nathan is only doing this as his ‘patriotic duty’. His already nervous nature has been pushed to the limit here, but at least he has his friend Chase to fall back on.

Given the man is a wharfie of almost eight years, he has nothing against hard work, and in fact relishes it. Most of his weight comes from muscles built since childhood, when his father would run him through obstacle courses likely to make marines nervous. He is one of nature’s subordinates too, so any orders given are executed to the best of his ability.

On the topic of Pokémon, he has no real feelings either way. He dislikes seabird Pokémon (they got in the way constantly around the docks) and larger/stronger sea-based Water-types (e.g. Wailmer, Carvanah, etc that try to flip or attack the boats), but overall doesn’t really care.

Back-Story
His life so far has been about as ordinary as they came. Born into a middle-class family and living in a rather overpopulated seaside city, Nathan was one of the less popular boys thanks to his shyness, but a fast learner and quite fit thanks to his ex-soldier father training him constantly. Like the other kids, he’d hang around on the docks chasing birds and rats, and scabbing titbits like loose change and snacks from the dock workers. Most of this was only done because Chase dragged him around like a pup on a leash. As Nathan grew, his hanging around the docks became more voluntary, more frequent and eventually ended up nabbing him a full-time job there, to his family’s moderate delight; his father would rather him be a soldier, like himself. His mother was glad he wouldn’t get killed, and his brother David already worked there. When he was almost nineteen, unloading items from Hoenn, he spotted a particularly pretty nurse coming off one of the ships. After much nudging and prompting from pretty much everyone he worked with, he managed to work up the courage to talk to her, and somehow ended up getting a date. A few years later this ended up with him proposing to her, to her profiteer father’s displeasure. They were making plans to move out, or even getting married quite soon, before he got swept up by the conscription and ended up god-knows-where fighting god-knows-who highly against his will.

ROUND TWO NOTES: The war is already starting to take its toll a little. What with the kidney incident, almost having a tree crush him, the multiple counts of verbal abuse and unsettling certainty of him not being able to survive this, Nathan is starting this round pretty on-edge.

ROUND THREE NOTES: Now equipped with a thick padded jacket and a fancy new scar on his chest, the latter of which he utterly loathes. It's mostly healed at this point, but it's still tender to touch, particularly at its deepest, under his left arm. He's also still suffering mentally; even now he still struggles to remember the scar's cause at all, and he's extremely on edge. He'll jump a foot in the air at even the mildest surprise.

Personality
Cold and aloof; unless you have food, Corey is not going to waste her time on the likes of you. She has little to no respect for Nathan, only really staying with him for the free food she invariably gets. While she might sometimes obey him, in battle he has no say at all. More of a watcher than a doer, she’s happy to sit back and watch dramas unfold around her. She dislikes physical contact in general, but touch where her tail was and prepare to be mauled mercilessly.

Backstory
This bitch has not had an easy life. Runt of her litter and with some major attitude problems, she ended up accidentally stowing away on a Kanto-bound ship. When it docked, she was half-starved and feral, but would have gotten off the ship and into the alleys unnoticed had she not gotten her large tail caught under a crate the wharfies were dropping. No-one realised she was there until she immediately started yelping and generally being in pain. They tried to lift the crate up, but a ton of war supplies is not an easy thing to lift; eventually one of the wharfies decided it would be quicker to cut her tail off; he did so, and to this day has a very nice Ice Fang burn on his forearm. Said wharfie also was the one that took her to hospital, got what remained cleaned and fixed, suffered many more bites as a result, and fed her near constantly. Now he’s going off to war, Corey’s decided she should go to. No-one else feeds her but Nathan, after all.

Personality
Allocated specifically to him by Mrs Campbell, Maddyn is a calm, careful beast that doesn't let anything stand in her way. She is never the first to react to anything, and despite some potentially devastating attacks is more of a defensive battler, preferring to keep enemies at bay with the threat of inevitable two-tonne doom crushing their spines or poisoning them beyond help.

Backstory
There's not much to tell, really. Captured fairly recently by a Pokemon ranger after living an uneventful life as one of the nannies of her herd. She's always been well-suited to a life of care-taking, and being given to Nathan, in her perspective, has just given her a new charge to worry about, albeit a particularly pathetic one.

It's not just eletricity that's drawn to her. Pokemon of all kinds also enjoy sharpening their claws/teeth/etc on her stony hide. She's totally chill with it, though on the odd occasion whoever's using her as their whetstone may get zapped by static electricity she's retained.
She is also now seven feet tall when she's standing; large enough to be ridden, and is Nathan's mount as well. She's okay with this; it makes it easier to keep an eye on him.

RUFUS
Pidgeot | Bold Nature | Keen Eye | Male

Quite a fatherly figure. Enjoys taking it upon himself to protect those younger/smaller than him, especially baby birds. Somehow this has extended to include Nathan. When Rufus is out of his ball he will often ride on either Nathan's shoulders or Maddyn's back. In a fight, will go exclusively for humans; in particular, their faces. Especially their eyes. And he keeps his claws sharp.

Backstory
One of the Pokemon captured young and early by the army for training. His almost unnaturally sharp vision and ability to break the sound barrier let him be trained as an excellent scout and messenger bird, but don't let these simpler tasks fool you for an instant; Rufus is a vicious fighter, even for Pidgeot.
