Original Upload: railgun04.deviantart.com/art/M…Words...Words cannot describe this...
When I originally commissioned that Mage ref sheet that became the look people are starting to recognize more, there were a few minor issues to it that I only discovered over time by commissioning artists. Much to K-ChanArt 's credit, neither of us could have forseen that people would begin to draw Manji's ears as floppier and floppier.
This new reference sheet aims to improve upon the excellent job that K-ChanArt did with creating the outfit by adding in the proper proportions, a solidly defined tail, a minor tweak madamsquiggles made that became my love affair with the outfit, Manji's bladed staff, and of course Toughset 's wonderfully designed ballroom gown version of Manji's Mage robes!
This should replace the old reference through and through, so hopefully there shouldn't be any issues! (also: yay!! two outfits as a default!)
=======================
DETAILS:
From Left to Right:
Manji is 5' 2" tall, or 158 centimeters, and has a pear shaped body type. As you can see, Manji has a shark tail has two sets of 3 fins, with the fins in each set being positioned almost in thirds around the part of the tail they occupy. The crescent "end" fins of the tail is more circular for ease of drawing. Do note: that the opening for the "end" fins points downwards, and that the tail can only move side to side, or up and down. Since the tail is made of cartillage, bones, and flesh, it is unable to rotate, and would likely strain or break the bones within her tail if it did. Imagine taking your torso and turning it completely 180°, so that you could look at your butt. Your spine would break, and you would die. Please bear this in mind and don't break my tail :c
Manji's shark tail starts at the tailbone area, quickly fattens up as it moves away, and then slowly thins in girth as it approaches the crescent "end" fins. She also has an oval-ish pair of glasses, sharkskin ears based off of my old shark version of Manji, and 3 earrings in each ear.
The Spell Thief Robes, aka "the Mage outfit":
Manji's Spell Thief Robes are designed around one primary factor: comfort, lightweight, and her skills. Manji, first and foremost, is a master healer. Her robes show this with design elements taken from the White Mage robes in Final Fantasy XIV. However, since she became so good at harnessing the white magicks to heal and protect her party members and others, she found that her skills were not needed as much, essentially acting more as a doctor in the towns she travelled through until she found herself out of business after curing all of a town's ails.
Due to a desire to continue to be of use to others, and herself, she picked up a few other skills:
-As she loved the ability to be on the front line of combat and healing others close by, she took to training in the use of polearms. She managed to craft a custom-made, bladed staff with a pearl embedded in the blade that could harness the wind and holy elements she used in the Healing (or "White") school of magick. With her new weapon in hand, she used her agility to essentially become a battle dancer. Clever at evading enemy attacks, while still maintaining her distance with her staff, Manji could be a welcome form of back-up to fend off attackers from adventuring mages and archers. This was not enough, however, as many scoff at the idea of a mage being on the front lines.
-Manji learned, and is still learning magic from the Conjuration (or Purple) school of magick, which makes her useful in summoning items and objects. This was not particularly useful, as many seemed even more wary of a mage that could suddenly create a bag of holding, store a useful item, and then unsummon the bag, never to be seen again if the mage died. Still, Manji used this to her advantage to hold many of her necessary belongings in a pocket dimension, not quite unlike a complex Knapsack of Holding. She even attuned an amethyst and affixed it upon the base of her staff for easy summoning and storage. But this was still not enough.
-Thievery. Using her combined skills, she found it quite easy to become an expert at the art of stealing. Her agility would aid her in getting in and out of areas a breeze, making heists ideal. Her White Magic Wind spells would aid her in not only creating distractions, but also in softening the sound of her footsteps. Her combined magics could conjure temporary enchantments on her boots, to aid in silent sneaking and movement. And her ability to conjure a pocket dimension made hiding stolen items a breeze! If she ever were to get caught, it would be difficult to prove anything, as not only would there be no evidence, but accusations would also be pointed at someone viewed as the pillar of the community. Thus, when she finally began to find a home to stay at, she picked a quite place in a northern town that was friendly to mages that were the adventuring type.
*As a side note, the cowl to Manji's outfit is detachable! The cloth pauldrons attach to the wool hood, and ties in the front to make a cowl that looks stylish. However, the entire thing can be removed!
The Northern Mage Gown:
After attaining affluence and money, she decided to settle down in a northern town populated with other mages that came and went. She bought herself a villa and lived a modest life with all of her earnings. No one really knew how she came into such large sums of money at such a young age, but with her essentially becoming the town's physician, no one really questioned it. Some just assumed she was from some royal lineage and sought her own fortune. Some figured her great skills had earned her such a vast amount from a foreign king. The few that finally did figure her out received a small, friendly conversation that explained it: while Manji was a unique member of the thieves guilds in other cities, she used her network and reputation with the underground to make sure her city was off limits for all thieves. In return, Manji would make trips to see the thieves guilds and lay hands upon their members: she essentially became a medic for the underground, which in turn kept her secret so long as she helped keep them alive and gave proper burial rights. In her travels, she was hit by a spell that transformed her Spell Thief robes into an elegant ballroom gown. The intent was to slow her down and surprise her, but that only lent itself to surprising the opponent when she was able to charge them with her staff. After the event, she had to disenchant her robes to turn them back into her normal attire, but with much pain as she absolutely loved her new gown. She commissioned the town's tailors and wizards to create a gown based off of her transformed outfit, and it quickly became one of her favorite dresses! She began to wear it everywhere, even on adventures into dangerous territory. She had the tailors make modifications so that her dress equal parts gorgeous as it was deceptive to others of her movements. With petticoats a-flutter, word spread and she became viewed even more as an aristocrat. The thieves guilds, however, continued to maintain good relations with their ambassador, speading word of the lovely Mage of the North, whose healing hands can help guide lost souls to comfort.

I simply cannot thank Railgun04 enough for this! This work is absolutely breathtaking, and I simply cannot believe how wonderfully this has turned out! I absolutely love this reference, and hope it can be good to use for a long, long time :3
