Description

"It was December 7, 1941. The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service had already set up their bomber planes. They had planned the best attack on America yet. They were going to take out the Pearl Harbour military base in Honolulu. And it would have went right, if not for one flaw: their accuracy was not very good. They missed and hit the ocean beside the base. Upon hearing about the attack, the military personnel at Pearl Harbour had decided to report this to FDR, and he was not amused. He had decided to get revenge on them. Now, we know of Operation Downfall, which was the proposed Allied invasion of the Japanese mainland, yes? If not, then I do not blame you, as it never happened in our universe. However, it did happen in this universe, as America had began secretly planning the operation. They had planned military routes as well as navy routes. However, they had to ask the USSR if they could use Soviet territory to pass their troops through to Japanese Manchuria. This was agreed to by Stalin, but only after a lot of bargaining with him. They then began selecting target cities as part of Operation Downfall. These cities were Tokyo, Pyongyang, Seoul, and Shanghai. After planning had finished, Operation Downfall was officially put into place. The Japanese forces were told that there was a large force from the USA attacking Japan. They were ordered to hide all weapons inside their bases. Their military commanders, especially those who had fought in the Sino-Japanese, knew that this was a trick. But it was not a trick. On August 8th, 1943, a squadron of American soldiers began attacking Tokyo as well as the previously targeted cities. They had been given orders to kill everyone possible. The whole of the Japanese military command was killed. There was no resistance whatsoever. This was also the day when most of the cities mentioned before were attacked. Eventually, the Treaty of Osaka was signed on September 24th, the Japanese Empire was no more, and World War II had finally come to a close."

The teacher then stopped the DVD, which stopped the narrator in the documentary from talking. "Alright students," he said. "any questions?"

A teenage boy raised his hand.

"Yes, Tommy?" the teacher asked.

"Is alternate history in History really a good idea? Like, why couldn't we have done it in English?"

"Well, Tommy," the teacher began. "There is a reason why alternate history is so popular among students. It is because it allows us to see what would have happened if there had been another outcome."

The teacher then turned back to his class.

"Alright class! Your next assignment is to come up with an alternate history scenario. The mockumentary you just watched is an example of it. 1000 words, how you present it is up to you."

The bell then rang.

"Class dismissed." the teacher said. "Do not forget about the assignment. Oh, and Darren? Stay back, I want to talk to you about your behaviour today..."
