This is commissioned work realized for Helmut Peterson, all rights over the picture are granted to him. This is a full rework of a study I've done before. Here it shows the 1st Leibgarde regiment during the 1870-1871 Franco Prussian war. The scene is fictional but the uniforms are pretty much accurate.ΒRelated content

Thanks a lot! In fact the German found themselves more than once outmanoeuvred and trapped but the French high command never exploited any of these situations because of bad communications or simply doctrine considerations. At Mars-La-Tour the French could have simply wiped an entire German army if they seized the opportunity instead of retreating out of prudence. This would have driven a wedge within the German deployed forces and lead to an encirclement of most German forces. The French had everything to win the war quite easily but this simply wasn't the good time because of the disastrous organization and supply.Β
