Spinosaurus with broken wrists... Just teasing!! I love it.

The wrists aren't broken because they're not pronated, just rotated like in all quadruped dinosaurs.

But they are because Spinosaurus wasn't quadrupedal

You can't be sure
I'm not advocating for a quadrupedal locomotion for Spinosaurus, I'm just saying that this posture, at least regarding the theropod arm anatomy, is not totally implausible.

The models still great but that’s still worth mentioning

We can very much be sure , the hands in this spino are pronated and would thus be considered broken. Theropods simply cannot move their hands in this way like other dinosaur clades and no aspect of spinosaurid evolution indicates they could as well. In order for a Spino to have its palm touch the ground like that it’d have to pronate

Great job!

Just some warnings: 1- dinosaurs could not pronate their hands (if that is what you made there). 2- Spinosaurus had very small hip bones (thus they would not be able to have big, strong muscles) and the fact that it had few and small carpals (unlike a gorilla for example) made it's arms too weak to allow it to walk on all fours.

I don't think the wrists are pronated, just rotated like in quadruped dinosaurs.

Yeah I did not think about it

There has been a lot of debate since the 2011 discovery, but the current agreement is that it was in fact bipedal. A very slow one, but bipedal at last. Never the less, this is awesome.

Spinosaurus was actually bipedal.

Spino probs couldn't walk on its front legs

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zgerken In reply to tigris115 [2017-09-11 13:43:08 +0000 UTC]

Actually no it could, they found out by looking at its pelvis.

FeatherNerd In reply to Zgerken [2018-03-25 11:42:19 +0000 UTC]

Actually, like most theropods, spinosaurids couldn’t pronate their wrists to a certain angle, so it would be impossible for them to walk on all 4s like in this illustration.

Yeah I've changed my opinion since when I made that comment, so I do agree with you.

How so? Because the shoulders couldn't support that weight.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zgerken In reply to tigris115 [2017-09-11 20:49:37 +0000 UTC]

If shoulders couldn't support it's weight then it couldn't walk on all fours, and I never said it could walk well on its hind legs it may have been only able to walk slowly on the rear legs and spent most of its time in water, an idea I strongly support because it makes the most sense. Plus why would a group of carnivores at the apex version be four legged? That doesn't make sense.
