Description I just wanted to ask you all what your thoughts were about the way Andross looks in the original Starfox and Starfox 64. (So just ignore the crappy quality of the drawing )

Which one do you like more and why? He's always been one of the weirdest parts of the series, and I might be drawing a pic involving him...

Doesn't Andross look a lot like Zardoz? You know, that weird Sean Connery movie where he wears a thong for the entire film.

Here's a link to a picture of Zardoz. I swear they look uncomfortably similar!

Maybe the makers of Starfox based Andross on its design.

Nr.1 is the more realistic one, me thinks.

I think I agree. Thanks for the input

Realistically speaking they were both suppose to be robot heads pilot by said villain. Usually he ought to have such a high ego that he modeled it out of his likeness.

I wasn't so sure. The one in 64 had a brain in it, unless he built that too

the SNES version was a robot head. I think the core you shoot whenever the face shatters is the main pod. The 64 version was basically andross after having ascended to a higher form of evolution due to his experiments. but one of the paths depicted it as a robot head, possibly a mech.

Also you hapen to remember oikonny's "Boss" form in the first level of assault.

'Ascended form' Andross was the one I was referring to. Thanks for the input

also in adventures he could be assumed to have ascended to near-godhood.

That's right.

I have a feeling that in the franchise His ultimate quest is to become god and rule over lylat as a god. hence, "Only i have the brains to rule lylat".

Yes, that seems to be his intent

Well, the cube inside the SNES version head (or the weird shape on hard) still had the monkey face on it.

Which by the way, both that and the version from the nes was used in a comic book which detailed their origins and other stuff about the starfox universe.

Yes you're right, kind of like he was wearing a mask over his true form

The one thing that always puzzled me...is Corneria a military dictatorship? Like, you never see the government, Pepper seems to be in charge of basically everything, and you don't see many free societies that have posters of a military officer plastered all over the capital...

ManusExtraordinarii In reply to ACBradley [2015-12-04 13:14:37 +0000 UTC]

I guess that possible, considering they own multiple planets which all seem to be under its singular banner.

Though personally I always saw them as something like the UN, with the HQ on Corneria. And also their armed forces seem rather incompetent and unprepared, but maybe they just got lazy during times of peace.

ACBradley In reply to ManusExtraordinarii [2015-12-05 09:32:08 +0000 UTC]

The military being lazy and incompetent is actually pretty in line with the idea of it being a dictatorship, actually, since in such a society military officers are typically appointed because of who they know rather than what they know. Also fits with their best military unit being a mercenary team, probably left because they were fed up of being passed over for promotion in favour of people who knew the right people or had family members with political connections.

There's also something very dodgy about how Venom is said to be uninhabited and yet somehow Andross had a first-rate military built up there within a few years, which you could read as an "official story" lie that's been repeated so often even the people in charge believe it ("Invasion of Venom? Loss of the seventh fleet? Corneria has only ever had six fleets!").

Not saying any of this is intentional, but it is amusing how coherent it is as an explanation of what we see

Very good points! I'd love to see a twist like that coming out to be true I think it was implied that all Andross' troops are clones or genetically created in some way, since he was supposed to be some brilliant scientist or something?

Man, I love discussions like these, I've missed them

ACBradley In reply to ManusExtraordinarii [2015-12-05 12:29:01 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if they could be clones since unless you give him cartoon mad scientist powers (ie infinite resources) since as a bioweapons scientist (and why did Corneria have a well-funded bioweapons program until Pepper got rid of it, anyway?) he wouldn't be able to build any kind of facilities on a deserted planet since he wouldn't know how to do that, let alone know how to design spacecraft and industrial facilities to build them and such. Plus they're all different kinds of monkeys and the Attack Carrier's captain and the two guys at Area 6 are lizards.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Starfox game where you were just a CDF pilot defending Corneria or something, given it's a whole planet you could come up with some really neat stuff to do just by assuming you only saw a small part of the enemy taskforce in 64. Would be far better than Assault stealing the plot of Silpheed: The Lost Planet except for the best bit and pratting around with pointless stuff like "we must establish Fortuna and Fichina aren't the same planet even though Starfox 64 is a remake and not a sequel so it doesn't matter."

ManusExtraordinarii In reply to ACBradley [2015-12-05 12:41:18 +0000 UTC]

I guess he had some help then

It'd be great to see a game like that, I always like the idea of getting to see what's happening in other places away from the main protagonists, and maybe see things from their point of view. And the story in Assault wasn't the best, I'll agree with that

UltramanZenith [2015-12-04 07:39:43 +0000 UTC]

What's the difference, they're both egotistical, maniacal, power-hungry monsters!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ManusExtraordinarii In reply to UltramanZenith [2015-12-04 08:38:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but one's looks like a paper mask while the other is an actual disembodied head

What do you think of the way each looks, as in the actual final boss of the games?
