Description Full view is much better !!

Of course !!! How could I possibly have my Own Drop and not have my Own Mushroom ???

The rains and the heat of this summer were so intense that in February I discovered some tiny ones among the grass. Before our dog destroyed them while running over them, I made him "stay" and I took several shots.

Not easy ! I learned that I had to remove grasses and sticks and leaves before achieving the right shot, because otherwise many objects would stand in the way.

I have some others, but I love this one, specially.

Now, go and get your own macro mushrooms !!

Search near the trees, among the grasses, on umber places.
You will find some tiny one and you just have to shoot with
a macro option of your camera. I have no macro lens !

Well I've got one mushroom picture up
And I've got a few more that I'll hopefully get up sometime this week.
I finally had luck on a trip to Oregon; I found quite a few different ones. And I feel quite happy with the results. But alas; of course none of them look as spendid as yours...unfortunately

Daywish In reply to ??? [2009-03-09 20:02:03 +0000 UTC]

There's something sculpture-like about it I would just wish for some sharpness.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Manwathiell In reply to Daywish [2009-03-10 01:42:11 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean, so let me tell you this:
The photo was NOT xtra sharp because the mushroom was very small (look at the size of the grasses at the sides and behind... and the grass had been cut not long ago). The grass in front of the mushroom is in focus

For some reason, even after pressing the button half-way over and over again, the camera would not focus the mushroom. It would focus those grasses. I was holding my camera with both hands and my chin was touching the grass and it was VERY difficult to see

I wish I had a macro lens so I could fulfill your wishes But I dont! So... I decided to deliver this fairy-tale, softly blurred glowing image of my Own Mushroom

I have other mushrooms that I need to work on. But... will you belive the photos have dog's hair, debris and such ? In some, the TOP of the mushroom is in focus, but the rest of it is not !
So... I am in the middle of some learning process, I guess
And while I was there (at the hut) I could not see my photos anywhere else but the camera display. There, they looked really fantastic I knew already that the display would show it fine, while it could still be out of focus, so I took more than one.

More or less, does it make sense ?

Daywish In reply to Manwathiell [2009-03-10 08:35:16 +0000 UTC]

I believe the automatic focus works on the most contrasting area. When I have that problem I usually focus on some other object at the same distance from me, than try to hold the focus and take the picture of the one I want I try it a couple of times and usually at least one pic is focused in the right place.

I can see that your camera is a pretty old one, as they develop so fast these days (so is mine, BTW ). It might be that shooting such small objects at such a close range is out of its technical abilities (that is, focus length) - in that case try to shoot it from a greater distance, like 50 cm.

Anyway, this picture is a very pretty one, it has that summer feeling that most of your recent works emanate

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Manwathiell In reply to Daywish [2009-03-11 00:13:00 +0000 UTC]

I can try to use that and see how it works (to focus on something else and then hold and take the picture).

When I purchased this camera I actually wanted it to (dont LAUGH!) take text shots And this one did that pretty good
I hadn't even heard about DA's existance.

Of course, today I would take other aspects into consideration

50 cm. wouldn't be too far away for these grasses? They were too small.
As high as a toothpick, to give you an idea. And the mushroom was a little less taller than 1/2 of a toothpick. And there is another one I shot that is 1/3 of a toothpick. Anyway, I will make some experiments next time, to see how things look like 50 cm away instead of that close.

It is summer here, autum is starting on March 21st. !

Thanks for your advise, ... and time ! I really value your interest in commenting and getting involved

Daywish In reply to Manwathiell [2009-03-11 12:29:39 +0000 UTC]

Some objects are just too small for ordinary camera - it won't focus on the right place if you hold it too close, but you can try shooting from some reasonable distance and then crop the picture. If you're really into tiny things, the best you can do is save for a better camera with macro lens so you can enjoy it fully (:

Of course I have no idea what is your favorite hobby, is it worth investing in camera from that point of view

Manwathiell In reply to Daywish [2009-03-12 00:16:58 +0000 UTC]

In fact, next time I travel to the US (maybe 2010) I will purchase a
better camera. My husband doesn't know yet , but I know, and that
is what matters.

This is my favorite hobby. I love it more and more each day

I don't mean to butt in on other people's converstations...but being a journalist at heart we tend to be nosey by nature

I agree with all the advise Daywish has given you, except for one. This image would not be as powerful as it is if the mushroom was in razor-sharp focus. The soft focus is what, to me, adds the poetic touch needed to project the emotional chords you wanted to play.

I really loved it that way. It had a special magic touch

(By the way, being a woman at heart, we tend to be nosey by nature

I'm trying to make up my mind whether this is a two toned mushroom, or, the light is coming from the left-hand-side, thus making the left hand side lighter. It contrasts beautifully with the green background.
