Description I am very easily inspired by things, and I must say that the fantastic movie Avatar, by James Cameron, has been occupying my mind ever since I first saw it on December 22. I actually watched the movie in the cinemas three times during the Christmas holiday! (And a couple of times after ^^)

The wonderful world of Pandora felt so alive to me, and the visual effects in the movie made me stare open-mouthed over and over again. I just had to try and recreate some of it, so that's how this piece of artwork came to see the light of the day.

Jake Sully seems to have found an interesting little critter, and Neytiri explaines to him what it is. The sweet direhorse in the background probably just appeared out of nowhere . I think I failed miserably at shortening both of Neytiri's arms, which I concider a great achievement.

The Avatar movie and all of its characters belong to James Cameron.

I was scrolling through the Jake and Neytiri fan art (because I'm listing to the soundtrack ;D) and I saw this picture amongst one of the pages. This one really sticks out for me. Maybe it's the precise detailing you did or maybe it's the perspective or originality, either one this picture is really well done
it looks like a portrait you would see hanging inside a renaissance castle wall explaining the story of Jake and Neytiri.

That would be lovely, I've had something in mind but I dunno whether it'll be too demanding, and dunno whether it'll be so-called 'appropriate' (due to the fact that the Na'vi wear next to nothing) but maybe if you're ok with it I can PM you or something. I have a piece of art from my past drawings I can trade with you :3

YikYik In reply to Manweri [2011-02-20 11:06:39 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! Haha! I've only seen it twice yet. I think it's one of these movies that (partly because of it's length) will be seen about once a year because it's awesome and pretty, but unlike any random action movie can't be seen every other day for fear of ruining it for myself. I did buy it a little early though... I missed the extra long version...
Heh, I guess I've seen LoTR about 10-12 times and Star Wars somewhere around 28 times though. Predator I-II and Aliens I have no longer any idea about... Did you see Avatar in 3D? We didn't get it in 3D in my city until later and then I missed it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Manweri In reply to YikYik [2011-02-20 17:59:09 +0000 UTC]

I think I watched Avatar in the cinema 5 times when it had just arrived, every time in 3D, and it was an amazing experience. If you ever get a chance to watch it in 3D, I will totally recommend that you see it. I only have the normal version on DVD and Blu-ray, but I've seen the extended version once. It's great! I think I never seem to get tired of Avatar because of the beauty and details: every time I watch the movie, I spot something new.
I don't know how many times I've watched LOTR, but it's starting to become a few now! I've only watched the Star Wars movies once, actually. I like the movies, but I just haven't grown up with them the same way as LOTR I guess. I'm probably a bigger fan of Star Trek anyway And the Alien-movies are great! I haven't seen all of them yet, but I like them a lot ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

YikYik In reply to Manweri [2011-04-26 10:49:11 +0000 UTC]

Haha, wow, that's a lot! The only movie I've watched more than once in the cinema is LoTR 1 and 2. First LoTR movie I saw 3 times and the second one I saw twice! But then the cinema is so very expensive here it's crazy! (According to me anyway)
Yeah, I shall watch it in 3D if I ever get the chance! I missed the opportunity here since they only showed it for 2 days in 3D! But there are other movies in 3D too. I agree that Avatar is very beautiful though so it would have been neat to see it that way.

Nice! What! *shock* Only once! I can't be! You must see them again! Star Wars are wonderful and funny movies! The first three that is (oldies). The new ones suck pretty much... and they don't match with the story in the old movies either.
Yes, Aliens are great! Which ones have you seen? I've seen them all. I think Aliens (nr 2) and Alien 3 are the best ones. The first one is cool and the fourth is pretty bad. It starts out good, but then it just gets silly and weird. Meh. I'm having hopes for the next one though. The guy who made the first movie is working on a new alien movie!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Manweri In reply to YikYik [2011-04-26 19:26:25 +0000 UTC]

I know, cinema tickets are ridiculously expensive! Since I was little, the price has become about twice as much as it used to be!

Haha, I honestly don't know why I've never been properly absorbed into the Star Wars universe. I like the movies, as well as the way the fans make everything come alive off screen, but it's just not me, for some reason ^^'

I'm not quite sure which of the Alien movies I have seen. I've seen an old one many years ago, where an alien pops out of the stomach of an astronaut and starts sneaking around on the spaceship, and then I have a newer one where Ripley is cloned. Love them both! And yay, a new Alien movie sounds great!

YikYik In reply to Manweri [2011-04-26 20:59:45 +0000 UTC]

My point exactly!

Maybe you're just not that into sci-fi? Or... i dunno.. you liked Star Trek and Aliens... hmm... Well, we can't all love the same things I guess. You like them anyway. For me... well, I clearly remember the first time I saw them... I think I was maybe... 11? Not quite sure. Wonderful! I watch them every now and then still. But now it's maybe a year or two between each time.

It sounds like you've seen the first and the last one. You've missed the best ones!!! You've gotta see the second!!! Totally the best and scariest of them! The third is very much like the first but with a slightly different alien and in a colony of convicts. You've got to promise to see Aliens and Alien 3 now!

I know! I'm so excited about it! Hey, do you read/have read Lovecraft? They're making a Lovecraft movie that should be done by 2013! The Mountains of madness!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Manweri In reply to YikYik [2011-04-27 09:44:09 +0000 UTC]

I suppose I'm mostly into fantasy, though I enjoy sci-fi as well But I'm totally a "let us live in harmony with nature and fight evil heroically with our swords!" type of person, so that's probably why I'm more into Middle-earth

Oh, I've missed to two best ones? Aaaaaaaaah!!! I'll certainly do something about that! I promise!

Nope, I haven't read Lovecraft, though I probably should. Hopefully I can read something before the movie comes!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

YikYik In reply to Manweri [2011-04-27 13:31:17 +0000 UTC]

Hahahaaa! that's sooo like me! *lol* You put it into such funny but true words! Middle earth and Avatar? Avatar is really veeery much about respect for nature and goodness! I'm not too in love with LoTR though. I mean, I love it and have read them 5 times, but there's also many things I don't like. Like that everything was more glorious and better before and that all hail the elves as supreme in that way they do and everything fades. Makes it too unrealistic to me. But I love the good versus evil, and heroes and magic and all that! In general I mean. Have you read Dragonlance? Dark elf saga (Forgotten Realms)?

Aaaaaah! You need to see them now!!!

Then I suggest you read At the Mountains of Madness, The Shadow out of Time, The Shadow Over Innsmouth and The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. Possibly the Colour out of Space and Dreams in the Witch House also. The movies 'The Dreams in the Witch House' and 'Dagon' (shadow over innsmouth) are pretty good too. Low budget and fairly short, but follows the stories pretty well. I like them. Most Lovecraft movies suck though. That's why I sooo look forward to see At the Mountains of madness since they say both Cameron and Del Toro... (I think his name is, I keep forgetting) are going to produce it. Toro made 'Pan's Labyrinth' if you've seen it?

Manweri In reply to YikYik [2011-04-28 10:45:19 +0000 UTC]

Haha, they are very true words! I dream of becoming a heroine of good all the time (or evil, if people annoy me ), so I envy Neytiri, because she lives in harmony with nature, and she is badass. LOTR may be a bit unrealistic with the supreme elves and all, but I enjoy it ^^ I haven't read any of the series you mentioned, unfortunately (there are sooo many series and books I have yet to read), but it's certainly something I wish t read sometime in the future!

I'll make sure to have a closer look at the work of Lovecraft! I've heard lots of good stuff about it And are you saying that James Cameron and Guillermo del Toro are going to make the movie together?! Holy shit! That is doomed to become beyond awesome! And of course I've seen Pan's Labyrinth - it's great! (and a little scary) ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

YikYik In reply to Manweri [2011-04-28 13:33:28 +0000 UTC]

I agree! I wanna have magic powers or be a dragon or something so I could go out there and smash the evil and make the world a better place! Help people understand that animals have feelings, that we only have one Earth and that nature is precious and all that! It would be so awesome! *happy sigh*
haha, me and my brother saw Avatar yesterday again. It's such a beautiful movie! And I just really really LOVE the birds... umm... ki... forgot their names again. The ones they fly on. So amazing! Especially Neytiri's green one. I love green.

Sure, I enjoy it too! Very much! Just some things that annoy me. but that's true for almost anything on the other hand.

I loved Dragonlance, the Chronicles and Legends trilogies (by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, The first 6 books) and also the first 6-9 books of the Dark elf Saga by Salvatore. You should read George R.R. Martin's books 'A Song of Ice and Fire' too! Awesome!

He's got a special style of writing. I love it, it's very dramatic and strange. Not really very scary (except for sometimes) but it has a very dark and scary mood to everything. And the oddest aliens I've ever read about I think.
Yes, that's how the saying goes atm. I know Del Toro has wanted to make the movie for ages, but Hollywood wouldn't let him... but Cameron became interested and suddenly it was ok. I just hope it really becomes real because it could be so totally awesome I'd die of happiness!
I like Pan's Labyrinth, it's interesting, cool and a bit scary! Love the Pan!

Manweri In reply to YikYik [2011-04-29 10:45:28 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I think we're born in the wrong world Not enought people care about nature here!
Ooooh, Avatar It reminds me that I have to watch the movie again soon! Oh, and they're called Ikran It would be so awesome to have one!

I've read the first book of ASoIaF (Game of Thrones), and it was absolutely marvellous! It truly is an ultimate fantasy world, without being overkill (just sad that so many characters die -__-)

Dramatic, dark and scary, and odd aliens all sound like some good ingredients for good books!
Haha, as soon as Cameron wants to make a movie, I think anyone would let him Like, if he wanted to make a 3 hour movie about grass growing, he would probably get all the rights. And he would make it look awesome That man has powers!
Ah, Pan looks awesome! One of the coolest designs I know about, actually

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

YikYik In reply to Manweri [2011-04-29 15:37:42 +0000 UTC]

Indeed! I've though that many times... I should have been born in a fantasy world and lived with the elves or something! *sigh*
Yes! Ikran! How could I forget! They are so pretty! Yes, I'd love to go flying on one!

I know! That you never know if some character you like will live or die is really making the book so exciting! But also makes me worry! I had to look ahead sometimes because I needed to know right away if the lived or not! But yeah, awesome books! I've read five of them... waiting for the last book now.

Indeed!

Hahaha! Yes, you're probably right about that! I totally agree! I was like, in love with the Pan from the first second I saw him! Never seen such an amazing design of one before! He looks so part of nature, cool, fearsome but also beautiful in some odd way.

If any of use happen to find a portal that leads to a magical world, then we must make sure to tell each other about it!
Haha, it's quite easy to forget the names of alien species (even if you actually know them very well)

Oh, I totally have to continue reading the ASoIaF! The rest of books seem to be soooo exciting!

Ah, now I feel like watching Pan's Labyrinth again. Way too long since the last time I watched it!

YikYik In reply to Manweri [2011-05-26 17:13:37 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that is a promise! I'd love to go exploring a magical world... wooow!
Indeed! Do you like the toruk (if that's the name of the animal?) better or the smaller ikran? I think I prefer the ikran... I just love their colours. But the big one is very impressive too.

Yes, you should! It's so awesome!

Haha! Yeah, it's a cool movie. Very different too. I watched it not too long ago though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Manweri In reply to YikYik [2011-05-27 22:15:11 +0000 UTC]

Toruk is awesome, but I think an Ikran is far more practical, seeing as it is smaller. So I'd rather want a small, quick Ikran than a huge and slow Toruk, if I were to choose between the two And then I would regret my choice when I saw the magnificent Toruk fly away

Oh wow, now I think I really need to watch the movie again, even if it's past midnight
