Description
After being stuck in the tower for weeks, the princess no longer had the patience to wait for a prince to rescue her, so she decided to escape the tower on her own. That was a little more troublesome than she had expected, though. This is another one of my old ideas, and I've wanted to make a proper painting out of it for years. Well, now I have, and despite struggling with the tower more than I like to admit, I really enjoyed working on this. Ah, how I enjoy illustrating fairytales (or that is, illustrating how I think fairytales should be)
Enjoy!
Medium: Photoshop CS5
Date: May 11, 2011
Time spent: Hmmm, I'd say about 50 hours, working on and off
References: I got a lovely reference for the princess's boot
EDIT: Wait, do I spot a DD here???

I love her already. Also, magnificent composition and execution. (Even though it's comparatively old) it's immensely impressive!

Love your princess boots! lovely. Must have caught her out hiking hehe I love it! Or maybe just trying to set a style for her kingdom (if it isn't already like that). Gives me a lot of ideas of what a more practical princess would do
Some of us enjoy other things in addition to pretty dresses and feminine activities. Er... not that I'm implying that "I'm" a princess!
Also, fantastic expressions on both! Hmm, I don't usually use this many exclamations. ^.^ Just your luck! (Not sure if that's good luck or bad, tho, haha.)

Thank you very much! She is indeed a practical princess, though she has a hard time finding the kind of clothes she would prefer amongst her required, girly outfits (it's not like they give her pants and stuff, those impractical seamstresses...). But she makes the best out of the situation
And I certainly don't mind exclamations - life wouldn't be the same without them! Yeah!

Aha! glad you remember me... I'm still making animations on Sketch Star , but I think I'm finally running out of ideas on what to draw.
I left a message on your latest life drawing cartoon, very funny

Manweri In reply to Mrwonkystick [2011-11-14 01:21:39 +0000 UTC]
Of course I remember you, I've spent quite some time on Sketch Star you know I've felt quite bad for just disappearing like that, but life just got in the way. I tried to create a new animation a few months ago, but my tablet doesn't go very well together with SS anymore, for some reason :/ Maybe I'll be able to fix it someday, just so that people know that I'm still alive, haha
And if you're running our of ideas, you probably just need a little break and some inspiration, I guess

Mrwonkystick In reply to Manweri [2011-11-21 00:08:33 +0000 UTC]
I know what you mean about drawing tablets not working with the new sketch star, I've had the same problem. I just use the mouse for most details and the tablet for fine stuff like hair etc.
It would be great if you could do a new animation, the other sketchers would be quite excited to think you had returned, even if it was just a fleeting visit.
Anyway, I'm really liking your excellent new artwork.
I did take a break for 2 weeks from SS and it's helped as I just published 2 new animations that have had a good reaction from the voters... I'd better get on with real world stuff next though

Manweri In reply to Mrwonkystick [2011-11-27 14:00:48 +0000 UTC]
I guess I'll just need a lot more patience while working on animations then, seeing as it takes time to work with a tablet that messes up all the time. I'll give it a few more tries whenever I have time, so that people get to know that I'm still alive, haha
Thank you very much for the kind words, I'm glad you like my personal artwork
I should have a look at your new animations; I'm sure you and all the others have progressed a lot since I left SS ^^

Mrwonkystick In reply to Manweri [2011-11-28 15:49:50 +0000 UTC]
I find that one day Sketch Star works OK, then the next day the delay between moving the mouse/tablet pen is like trying to draw with a pen made out of bendy rubber. I'm glad you might have another go at animating.
I've done a ridiculous number of animations over the last year or so. I keep thinking of retiring gracefully, but then I come up with another idea

Manweri In reply to Mrwonkystick [2011-12-11 14:13:59 +0000 UTC]
My problem with SS is that the brush is lagging behind, and that the program reacts as if I'm right-clicking on the screen all the time. It's reeeally annoying, and makes it next to impossible to create anything decent :/
As long as you're inspired and enjoy SS, I think you should continue hanging around there. I know pretty much everybody would miss you if you happened to disappear, seeing as you've been active there for so long now. But of course, it's up to you; we all have lives outside of the Internet
