Description
So I've been thinking lately that all my images take too long. If I could just find a quick style, things would move on a lot better. I can't draw cartoons, or cartoon style, so instead I have to go kinda sketchy. Then comes the question of whether or not to shade. I didn't shade this one, and I kinda quite like it. To be honest I preferred it when it was just a sketch, but I like a bit of colour to show that a horse is the horse you're trying to portray. So because I luff him to bits and he's my special boy, I decided to draw the recently gelded Glamour.I love this style and want to experiment with it. But should I take it to the show ring or just keep it local to my stables? Opinions?
This story is set in the future.
Story
It was a warm late-summer afternoon, and most horses were already out grazing calmly in the golden light of the sun. Glamour had been inside most of the day, being subject to a new vigorous training routine. He was being taught manners and skills that he never knew existed. It was safe to say he was a different horse to the one they had sent to America. He was friendly and good natured, nuzzling for attention and treats and being rather cheeky with his behaviour. Being gelded had also made the world of difference, his head no longer turning at ever mare or stallion to walk past, the horse instead showing a general indifference to other horses. Chase patted the gelding on the neck as he went into the stable with a head collar. He whickered and bobbed his head gently, his pale blue eyes watching Chase carefully. If there was one thing that still had not been mastered, it was turning him out. As the stallion was led from his stable and he realised where he was going, his head shot up. He looked the perfect image of a Harlequine, mane flowing with his gait, tail held high, neck arched. It would have been perfect if he had been in a show ring, but certainly was not appropriate for going to the field.
All the way up the path to his paddock, Glamour tossed his head and pranced. He didn't barge or try to bolt, he was just eager and irritating, nudging Chase to go faster, eyes alight with glee. He jostled at the gate and barged through as it opened, whirling around to face the fence, learning that co-operating got him released that little bit quicker. Chase grinned at the horse and slowly unhooked the head collar. With a joyful whinny and a series of bucks, Glamour was off across the field, tail fanning out behind him like a glorious banner. They had tried tying up his tail multiple times, and after Mark had been kicked they decided to call it a loss and just brush his tail every time he came in. One thing Glamour would never like would be people behind him.
As he bolted across the field, dark coat gleaming in the sunlight, it was hard to imagine his horrible past. Chase found it difficult to picture the gelding as a terrified horse, cornered in a filthy barn, his coat barely visible through the dirt and grime. Glamour was certainly the image of a healthy horse now. As he reached the other end of the field he whirled around and stopped still, his ears perked and his tail high. Chase grinned and hooked the head collar on the fence. Glamour had to be his secret favourite, a beautiful horse with a unique and wonderful personality.

Cool! I think that you should do shading and all at shows but for normal training pics this is a great idea.

Well that's what I'm attempting. I think it's working alright ^^ I'm also working on simple backgrounds, that just give the idea of shape and such.

I really like it
Maybe try a show image out like this and see how you like it.
I think I'm going to do the broodmare pic with more detail and the mare foal pasture pic will be a little more sketchy. I can never find a 'style' I want to use all the time lol.

Man, I do love this guy. ^^ And, of course, sketchy style is a winner in my books! Wonderful story, too.
