For those of you who aren't aware, Unitarians believe that all roads lead to Heaven. You pick a path, any path, and as long as you follow that path faithfully and truly believe in your heart that you are on the right road, than in the end you will make it to the side of God...though God to them is pretty undefined. In their belief, they think that Hindus, Buddhists, Islams, Jews, Christians, and Catholics are all going to make it to Heaven. Just because they have faith. In something. Anything. If you can't tell by now, I don't agree. I believe there's one road, one truth, one faith, one God. ONE way. The Christ way. Following him. We actually had this as a sermon in church a few weeks ago and I was intrigued from the get-go. Think about it. If Buddha, Karma, reincarnation, and saints can get you into Heaven...than why did Christ die for everyone? He didn't just die for those who followed, but for everyone. So why would he agonize himself for people who were going to take other roads, just to end up back at his feet? He said "I am the way the truth and the life, and no one gets through the Father but through me.
Here's the part where people start breathing down my neck and calling me an intolerant, arrogant Christian.
Jesus died to take away our sins. By doing that, he was making a path for us to reach him again. Why make that path, go through all of that...and than let people chase Gandhi to Heaven? His efforts and toils would be all for not.
It just doesn't make sense. There can't be more than one truth. Maybe you can get brownie points for honestly trying, but can you win? I don't know. Truth isn't relative. You may see things differently from a different side of the spectrum, but that's perspective, not truth. There can't be more than one truth. Let me use a skit on you. You see a balloon, and it's blue. Maybe someone else grew up and they were taught in their life that the color was green. But you know it is blue. They were given false information, and now they honestly believe with all their hearts that the balloon is green. But does that make it any more green, just because their intentions are good? No. It's still blue.
Truth is perfect. There is no flaw in truth, or it wouldn't be true. It may be confusing, it may not be what we want to hear...it may not be preferred. But it is still true. Other doctrines might be similar, but religion and faith are different. One religion could be much like the next, but the faith involved is oceans apart. And if you really followed one faith, than you would follow it wholly. How can you say your faith follows Christ, but your actions will dabble in every religion you know? If you believed and loved God, wouldn't you want to follow his word, law, and the religion that follows, to please him.
It's not enough to believe. It's not enough to carry the cross, or in this case, any cross. You must show it. Your actions have to line up with your faith, and your faith has to be shown to all.
I don't hate Unitarians. I think their faith is weak at the knees. When I think of Unitarianism, I think of people who view themselves as "tolerant" (not knowing what it really means to be tolerant)...and people who just, rather than being firm and strong in one idea, are open to anything and everything just to keep peace. I think, "people-pleasers". But you see, what's more important. To be sweet and kind to this world so that everyone likes you because you believe in all ways...or sticking to your guns and getting the points with Christ for showing HIS way.
