Description
What, in fact, constitutes something as art? This question was posed to me by a fellow deviant, and the answer was hard to come by. My first thought was a visual of those explosive pieces one might see in an art museum. You must know the ones I speak of. A picture which looks like someone splattered fabric with a paint ball gun and was awarded millions of dollars for it and deemed a talented muse! Is such a thing really art?
Than my mind wandered to all of the intriguing quotes we rack up in our minds through out the years. Random, abstruse sentences which staggered out of famous lips, and have captured our minds for all of time. Are these fanciful phrases really art?
Finally, I thought of all the genuine, trying and ailing children, who have boldly and proudly magnetized a hideous excuse for a painting on their parents refrigerator. Dear me, can we really label such a thing as art! Must we let it reside under the same title as the great works of Vangou, Monet, Dickinson, King David, and even our fellow gifted deviants on this very site?
With all these circumstances and questions making their way through the realm of my mind...an answer finally came.
Art, in my belief, is anything which one intentionally creates to be profound, interesting, and lovely-whether or not it in fact is any of these or not. A sonet, painting, photograph, sculpture, needlework, architecture, spoken word, theatrical performance...even the hideous picture we all have seen upon the fridge at home...these, and much more, are what we should call art!
Art is only born, when our mind's creative eye aims to make it such. Every fantasized world, every breath-taking scenery, every captivating word...is a work of art.
If a man carries a tray of paints and stumbles, and upon hitting the floor the paints splash into a marvelous design, he has not actually created art. Instead, he has stumbled upon something artistic!
So if you are going to do something, do it with every intention of being wonderful...and you will find yourself an artist.

Agreed. Art is something where you put your heart, mind, and soul into it. Where you can't seperate your artwork from yourself. No matter what the final result is: that's TRUE art.

hmmm. i agree, if you set out to create something with artistic intentions, then what else can it be but art? not everyone appreciates all forms of art, but then art is such a broad term, it can really cover pretty much anything. it's all about intentions i suppose .

Yea. This came about actually after a debate with someone on DA about nude art and whether I thought it was really art or not.
