Eighteen candles blown away,
Lost to the breeze of a wish,
Eighteen thoughts pass me by,
Before darkness steals a kiss.

Eighteen years feign deep sleep,
Though in my heart each one I keep,
Eighteen trials now undone,
Kept nearby for anon.

Eighteen tears for eighteen years,
Eighteen times a choice to live,
Eighteen loves a frightened child,
Beckoning them a past to give.

Eighteen takes away the day,
The simple one is wont to play,
Eighteen calls this life unfair,
With adult cares and weary shares.

Eighteen takes its toll on me,
The child that's lost in her sleep,
Suddenly I turned eighteen,
Aging a year within a dream.
