Description
Many times I hear a lovebird speak of the perfection they see within the one they love. Many times I hear of the love one human feels towards another as perfect. But is it really?Love, in and of its self, is wholly perfect, for God is love. God is perfect. Thus, using the idea of syllogisms, love is perfect as well. Simple concept, no?
Here lies the complexity. If God is love, and if we are merely human, can we love perfectly? Is there such a thing as perfect love outside of God’s love? One side may say that would be raising man up on a platform equal to God’s own throne. For us to love perfectly would mean we are loving like God, loving God, acting in God’s very own being, and for that to be possible one would have to be God. Another side may say we are simply using a perfect gift, and thus we are loving perfectly.
Love is perfect, and it is truly a gift. It is wonderful, amazing, and so very real. It is as close of a glimpse of Heaven as I think any human could ever see on this earth. Yet I know this: my love is far from perfect. Love is supposed to be unconditional, undying, unwavering, indescribable, and of course, perfect. My love is simply not. I doubt, I fear, I give up, I get confused and angry, I lose sight, and I lose faith.
When thinking of this, the words of my dear friend came to mind. "If you can doubt God (which we all do at some point), you had better believe you're going to have your doubts about a person - we're talking about a fallen human being here after all. If you're not having doubts, you're obviously more infatuated with the image of a person rather than the reality of them (as the song says it, the stars in your eyes)."
We doubt, and there’s no room for doubt in perfect love, because perfect love has no fear, no doubts, and no worries. As God says: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
As my dear Daddy said: “David was probably the best at being completely honest with God through fears and doubts. I can't speak for anyone else but love is an every-day thing. I mean you have to wake up each day and say to yourself I am going to love that person today. There are days you don't want to. There are times when you think you can justify why you shouldn't, but you do.”
The debate all boils down to this. Love is perfect, God is perfect, and we are not. We are not capable of any sort of perfection. We aren’t capable of doing anything perfectly or being anything perfect. Love isn’t merely a feeling; it is an action, a thought, a choice, and a way of being. God is love-love was his identity. We can’t have a pure identity. Love is something you do; it’s something you make a conscious decision about. If we are “doing” love, than we are “doing” it imperfectly, cause we can’t “do” perfection.
We simply are incapable. For the life of us, we cannot capture the same selfless, Agape, holy, fearless, priceless love of God. We could never own up to it. We could never deserve it. We could never feel it.
We are so inapt to love perfectly we can’t even perfectly accept God’s perfect love. He loves us with out fail and we return such a beautiful token with what? Nails, thorns, blood, and a tree?
Yet it was that, our return to God’s timeless affection…it was that day that the world handed God the cross to bare that perfect love was forever defined.
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:1

Yes this is beautiful.... and agree with you... our love is not perfect, far from it at times... but the love of god is, but is blind to many people, its funny when something bad happens these days it gets blamed on god, not man kind, but never gets thanked for the good that happens... thank you for sharing this, i read it last night and had to wipe the tears from me... just still coping after a bad break up!! ....

That's a beautiful philosophy, I totally agree. Your thoughts are really something There are too few people out there in the world today that can take it for what it really is, like you can. I respect you!

Wow, that means a lot to me. The respect of a stranger is really something magnificent. This deviation was a long time coming...and finally I did it. I am glad to see it is well received.
