I wonder what ideas came to mind when the Jews labeled God with the name Kana, meaning “a jealous God”. Usually when one ponders the idea of jealousy he or she most likely will tie it to negative thoughts of immaturity, insecurity, envy, and an ever-present longing for more. Obviously if God is holy and perfect He cannot possess any such qualities. Now one must ask, what qualities do hold true to the name Kana?God is jealous for our attention, love, and worship throughout all of our lives here on Earth and forever after. Each day He catches his sons and daughters glorifying and adoring the things He has given us in this life, but not the Giver itself. Many times the object of glorification is in fact, ourselves. Other times the Lord seeks our attention because we forget about Him completely.
Kana is the only one to ever deserve the right of jealousy with no negative connotations attached. He created us in His image; He sculpted every mountain, scooped out every valley, and poured His own sweat and tears into the oceans. Our souls are not our own, but entirely His. God has every right to demand our all, because our all is truly His all.
The jealousy of God is absolutely beautiful. He wants his sons and daughters, the bride, the loves of his life, all to Himself. Despite our flaws He would never want to share His children with anyone, for any cost. Despite our sins, the idea of giving His angels over to be with any other repulses and angers Him. God is perfect, pure, holy, and wonderful, and He is eager and envious for every ounce of every being He has created to wholly love and adore him.
He wants you and me to lay down our crosses and follow his steps alone. He wants you and me to stop trying to find our own way through good deeds and lean on His grace to get us through this life. He wants you and me to give up all worldly sentiments, obsessions, and passions and fall madly in love with Him. He wants you and me to link arms and join Him in Heaven so that we may enjoy all of our days along side Him.
He wants you and me. He craves, yearns, and longs for our souls. He is in jealous furry to win our spirits before we fall into the hands of our demons. He came to live and die for you and me.
He wants us.
Shall we dance through the streets with our Father in Heaven, granting his most sought out wish, giving our all to His glory, ending His just but jealous rage…
Or do we want to lay down our crown rather than our cross, so that we may live for less?

Thanks yet again. I did this lesson yesterday and it went over pretty well. My pictures of the "Unity Candle" and "Wedding Banquet", are actually pictures from the day.
