Description Yelling and loud voices were common in the house of Rainbow Dash and Thunderlane, seeing as they had three rambunctious kids and all, so Thunderlane didn't think anything was wrong when he came home and took his saddle bags off, opening his mouth to greet his family, he was met with Rainbow Dash's frantic hoofsteps as she ran at her husband, her wings and chest fluffed out, showing something was seriously wrong.
"Rainbow? What is it?" the gray stallion asked quickly, looking around, afraid one of their children were hurt or something was on fire.
"I-it's Prism, Thunder. She, she ran home crying and slammed her bedroom door shut, she's yelling, I can hear crashing and I can't get in, please, she listens to you!" Rainbow Dash said quickly, her voice showing she was serious and this wasn't some kind of prank the family loved to pull on him when he came home from worl.
His ears pressed back against his skull. Prism was upset..? She must of been bullied again, she didn't tell Rainbow about that because she knew that her mother would fly off the handle and track the pony down and beat them for picking on her little girl. She had only ever trusted her father to tell him about it, always finding comfort in his levelheadedness and calm demeanor for worse situations.
He trotted to his daughter's bedroom and knocked his hoof against it, "Prism? Sweetie, it's me. Open up please?" he called, using his calmest and most even voice that usually got her to do what he asked. Once he heard the lock click and the steps move away from the door, did he open it. He turned his head to look at Rainbow, his look telling her to let him handle it and not to come in.
The sight he was met with, however he wasn't sure how to handle.
He walked in to see his daughter cowering behind her wings and her back turned to the door, hiding from him. It was only after he stepped in and his eyes adjusted to the darker room did he see the colored hair scattering across the floor and the smashed headband, torn stuffed animals and dresses littering the room.
"Prism what-"
"I can't handle it anymore dad!" her voice came out, raspy and shaking. The small purple pegasus lowered her wings and turned her head to look at Thunderlane. Her expression left him without breath.. She looked so broken.. Her hair was scattered all about but what was still on her head was choppy and uneven, he was surprised that she didn't cut herself in the process of doing that, even the hair on her tail was much shorter..
"Prism.. Your hair." he choked out.
"It doesn't matter.. I don't need it that long I.. I can't Dad.. I'm tired of hiding this anymore.. I can't anymore.."
"What do you mean?" He slowly walked in more and sat down next to Prism. "Please, take a breath and calm down, explain to me what is going on.." he avoided asking about the objects destroyed around the room.
"I.." Prism's chest have a heavy heave before leaning against Thunderlane, seemingly for support. "Some colts were playing today a-and I went to play with them.. And they made the comment th-that I couldn't play with them because I was a girl.. I can't listen to that anymore without telling you.. I.. Dad.. I don't think I mean I'm not.. I don't feel like a girl, Dad.. I.. I never have.. I don't know how to say this.. But I've always hated things like dresses and the long hair.. I just.. You were just so proud of your little girl an-and I was the top girl flyer s-so I felt like I needed to keep saying I was even if I.." they trailed off. But Thunderlane didn't need to hear anymore to understand. He had felt he knew this for a little bit already.
"So you've finally come out to tell me, have you..?" he said softly, putting his hoof around the smaller shaking frame and hugged them close. "It's okay Prism.. You don't need to be scared to share this.." he whispered quietly.
"Dad.. I'm.. I feel like a colt.. Not a mare.." the small pegasus mumbled into Thunderlane's chest as they hid their face.
"I know. Why do you think I don't buy you anything girly or enchourage you to be more girly? Opposed to your mom being tomboyish and me being too 'masculene'? If you liked that type of thing, I would of bought you as much as you wanted. But you didn't, instead we went out, played sports, flew, took dust baths, things girls don't usually like doing because I knew that's what made you happy. If you beleive yourself to be a colt, and you're completely sure, then you are. I have no place to tell you otherwise. You're still my baby, be it mare or colt" he murmured, his hoof gently stroking over the choppy tri-colored hair. "Do you want to tell your mother and brother?" he asked softly not long after, hoping she had the same bravery to tell them as well.
"I-I'm scared to Dad.. You know how Mama is.. She'll get upset.." Prism whimpered, their wings wrapping around them tightly.
"No she won't.. Here, if I tell her, will you stand at my side?" Thunderlane moved Prism's face from his face to look up at him with a soft, enchouraging smile.
"Come on, please? You gotta be brave, son" he said, hoping that this was what they wanted to hear.
It sounded strange to have that directed directly at them, but such a huge releif that their father was so amazingly accepting of this. "Y-yeah.. I guess, yeah.." they... He murmured with a weak smile.
"Come on, after this we ca go get you a proper haircut, deal?" he teased lightly, nuzzling the top of Prism's head, causing a soft, quiet laugh to escape him and felt him nod.
"Deal.. Thank you, dad.."

I've had this in my head for a while, ever since creating Prism's character that something just.. Just didn't feel right about them. Every time I thought about the little sibling of Prism, for some reason, a girl didn't come to mind. I guess characters shape themselves in my mind lol and thanks to and their picture about Prima Donna coming out to her mother and all, gave me the final push to go through with and not keep it in the corner of my mind like Prism has ouo. I hope I protrayed this alright. I just wanted to be true to the image I have in my mind for this little guy. I actually love them a lot but my inner conflicts about them has kept me from drawing them too much. At all actually lol. I also wanted a way to protray how I imagene Thunderlane to be, the calmer and more understanding side to Rainbow's hype and boisterous attitude.
And the type of scared that Prism was of Rainbow was fear she'd make it a huge deal and not take the news as easily, bombard him with questions and that was the opposite of what Prism needed, what they needed was Thunderlane's calm acceptance to for him to know that he wasn't strange because of this, and his father gave him just what he needed. The only one having problems adjusting to this was Stormy, causing them to drift for about a year before they made up and it finally made it through his head that he only had one sister now and now had a brother. He didn't understand the whole thing, how Prism could be a colt when they were obviously a mare, but eventually he matured and understood it and accepted it fully. Prism actually grew up to be pretty confident and happy as Prism Strike, only changing a bit of his name because he liked the prism part of his name because of his hair that he still prided.

.: Edit :. I added a bit more chaos to the room, tore up the poster, added in a torn up dress and added evidence that Prism had been hitting theΒ  walls and whatnot, more proof of what I was trying to convey before yaaay~ I was just tired last night and didn't wanna do all that

Nice story and art! The art really shows the emotion in the eyes. If I may give one critique though: There doesn't seem to be many broken items in her/his room. It would've added more, but it's still a great piece either way.

It's all further back, I have no idea how to draw ripped fabric and I didn't want to make it look crappy is all. I may add more clutter and whatnot but I dunno. But thanks~! (But it's just his, Prism goes by He )
