Description Anyway, here's my entry for the contest on cryptids and unsolved mysteries. And with a theme like that, I knew it would fit right into my Crowley universe, but I didn't want this entry to be part of the main story. Part of the reason why my previous attempt at a contest entry didn't make the deadline and has still yet to be uploaded is because it ended up going too far into the character arc and world building that it couldn't be anything else than a main chapter of Crowley University. My solution this time: write an excerpt from an in-universe scientific document that would be included in a textbook used for a course at Crowley University.

Given how supernatural creatures are part of everyday life in my story's world, I figured some kind of cryptid would be a natural choice. This also established what supernatural beings are collectively called, something I had struggled with as I was planning out the world. At first I considered the Greek daemon, which refers to any supernatural being below the gods, but with demons without the a were a distinct kind of creature in the story already, so I scrapped that. For the longest time, I just decided on "monster," for the catch-all term, but with its largely negative connotations in modern English, I kind of doubt it would end up being the case. So when I was starting to write this story, I figured "cryptid" was a good enough term, which also tied into this contest's theme.

Almost didn't make it to the deadline. I just got The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild a week ago, so I've been playing it a lot in my spare time, taking up a lot of time that could have been spent writing. In the end, I just stored my WiiU Gamepad out of sight so I could write without the temptation to leave the writing until, "I've cleared this one shrine... okay, now after I clear out this bokoblin camp... wait, this region's tower isn't too far away, I'll go activate it, then I promise to get back to writing... ooh, sidequest! I'll just finish that one quick, I promise!" And before I know it, I've been playing for four hours straight.
