"I don't know icepaw... I don't know!" He cried out. The clan was gasping and murmuring. Mourning over their lost clan mate. He could care less if his clan mates saw him broken and battered at this moment. he needed toy let it all out now or it would just build up forever and chase him like a shadow. He held his kits close to him, trying to comfort them though obviously it wasn't working. their mother was dead. dead. dead. could it even be possible? He wanted it to new a dream so badly he almost clawed himself to try and wake up. The clan respectfully rested their muzzles to her pelt, mourning her for the last time, cleaning her fur so she looked presentable again. The elders wouldn't take her to be buried until the morning when the ceremony was over. But for now, the pitiful family cuddled up to her side, wishing she could look at them and only purr 'my little ones, I'm ok'. but that was all a fantasy. And slowly the sobbing died down and soon the family was asleep, letting the nightmares takes over them. because that night, no one had the strength to fight any longer.

Goodbye dear moon song.. goodbye

"but- mom..n-no i cant.." she started to sob. " why didnt she come back before...she would still be happy.."

Diveshadow wrapped himself around icepaw, holding her close to his chest almost as if she was a bandaid that could heal him. "Icepaw.... She loved you" he mewed in a wobbly voice that sounded like he would break down again at any second. His other children poured out of their den at the commotion and his heat shattered as creek paw broke down in dusk paws arms. she only stared at the ground with pure rage in her icy blue eyes. all love seemed to drain out of her body. Opalpaw, the smily tan and white apprentice looked so fragile and sick at the sight of his mother on the ground and he flung himself not her body, shaking her to wake up before diveshadow pulled him too up to his chest. He couldn't look at her lifeless body and just closed his eyes. The image of her gaze still in his mind, haunting him even when he tried to run.

icepaw was one of the first to wake up, and upon hearing her father's yowl she bolted up and out to where he was. but stopped in her tracks when she saw her mother's lifeless body laying before him. "no- no not mom." she padded over, tears already welding in her eyes." dad, no she cant be-..."

Diveshadow couldn't bring himself to believe she was really gone. She deserved the respect a passing warrior deserved. He gently kissed her cheek as tears coated his cheeks. He gently lifted her lifeless body onto his back and carried her back into the territory. He would bring her home and tell the clan what happened. He didn't know if he should burry her now or bring her to camp. The sight of their dead mother would be devistating to his kits and his heart burst with pain at the thought. But he decided they deserved to see her one last time. And so, he carried the beautiful she cat all the way home as if she was just tired and needed to rest. Their memory's would fade into the night with her passing and a twinkling, new star Shawn brightest of them all that night. The moonlight made her fur look like crystals and he littered her body with white flowers before yowling into the night, finally letting his sorrow spill out and awakening the clan to share their loss as one. His cries echoed across all the territories that night. Hoping they would even reach star clan and maybe they would see what pain they brought.

The she cat nuzzled up to the warmth of the other male and closed her eyes, her breathing was slowly receeding." Thank you for everything diveshadow..." She mewled softly before she settled down and let her body rest. And after a few minutes of sleep the she cat stopped breathing.

Diveshadow could only stare at her, taking in the last moments he would see her aqua green eyes. 'yes… yes, cloudykit needs his mama' he thought to himself, slightly comforted at the thought that they would be together again. He swallowed another sob and nuzzled up to her, curling his body around hers. Would this be his last memories of her? He longed to curse starclan for taking his kit and his mother from him. why? why was life so cruel? would his other kittens be next? no, please don't be this cruel to me.

"My dear..dear diveshadow..please dont cry over me. You should know ill always be with you. Even if you cant see me..." She pushed herself up a bit and licked his cheek." Besides...dont you think cloudykit needs someone with him...?" She had to pause to try and catch her breath." Just please promise me youll watch over the rest of the kits, and be good to the next she cat that will be lucky enough to be your mate." She gave him a small smile." I know youll be one of MistClan's finest leaders..."

Diveshadow only stared at her, eyes clouding up from tears. "no! it can't end like this! how could you not come to me? you know i was here for you! you know your kits where here for you if you needed. Please Moonsong, let me get the medicine cat.. -just -just hold on a little longer and i-i can save you! You can come home…" he trailed off as his voice began to crack and a lump formed in his throat. It closed up and he began to softly cry and held her skinny body in his paws

...thats my point diveshadow.." she looked up at the male with tired eyes. unfortunately it was clear the female wasnt going to make it through the night

"oh- ok…" he reluctantly sat next to her, he wanted to see her eat something. "but look at you! you're going to drop dead if you don't eat soon" he mewed grooming her mangled fur. You would never have been able to guess she used to be a beautiful, lively young cat if you looked at her. She looked like a rouge who had just been a dogs chew toy… it ripped his heart out to see her like this.

diveshadow..im not hungry now...i dont want to eat anymore..." the she mewled."please...just come sit down with me for awhile."

"no no Moonsong, please don't be sorry. It's what you wanted! they are ok! I'm there, they are safe and and healthy and-" he stopped to wipe the tears from her fur "oh look at you, you need something to eat, ill get you a fish" he frantically turned to the river and scanned the water for something to swim by and it felt like every second took a season

well..i kinda went into a depression..i couldnt believe what i done to you and the kits....im so...so...sorry.." she had tears streaming down her face

Diveshadow searched for words. he wanted to yell at her for not coming home to visit! how could she just walk away and never look back like this.. but her state caused him to look at her only with pain and worry in his eyes."i- i was sitting here.. i couldn't sleep. I wanted to see if you would be here. I haven't seen you in moons.. Oh moonsong what has happened to you?" He mewed solemnly looking at her fragile frame

her eyes looked up to see her former mate.."wha-? what are you doing here..?" she said in a small voice. clearly the she cat had met her final days.."i..erm..it doesnt matter.." she took in a long breath.'...im so sorry i never came...i couldnt bare the fact of what i had done..."

It had been six long sad months for diveshadow and his family. The sorrow if his ex mate leaving left a rotten hole in his heart. It would never change the fact he cared for her well being. The kits had been devastated and wolfstar was livid. Diveshadow let a long sigh out as he scanned across the empty land. Moonsong had promised to visit but hasn't. He spent a night every week waiting for her at the river she had left him on. Hoping she would be ok. Nothing. There was nothing. Just like every other night. He was about to return to camp to nuzzle up to his kits when a flicker of movement caught his eyes. Across the stream lay a skinny lump of fur. At first he thought it was crow-food but then noticed a bright pair if aqua eyes stare at him through the night. Diveshadow gasped and swan through the water to pull himself up to her side. Now he could see it was Moonsong. "Moonsong! What has happened to you?" He cried out, looking at the bones that poked from her frail pelt

The white she cat limped along the undergrowth, the silver moon dappling her fur as she made her way. it had been about 6 moons or so since she had left mistclan, saying a last goodbye to her former mate, diveshadow. She didnt tell her kits, or any other clan mate that she was leaving that night. The depression and realization of what she had did hit her a few days after she had left. She couldnt believe that she left her beautiful kits alone without an explanation..she sat down and looked at herself, bones showing since she hadnt had the energy nor willpower to hunt for herself. slowly, her body was starting to weaken even more than it already was.

The she cat grunted a bit and laid down by the riverbed that looked across the river and to her old home, where everyone she had ever known was.. she wondered how upset her kits were with her for leaving them..she didnt blame them if they were upset. It was a weak move to leave them like that, she now realized that. Moonsong thought about maybe going back and beg to be let back into the clan, but she knew there would be no point. She laid there for the longest time before she pushed herself up on wobbly legs that were too tired and refused to carry her farther than a few paw steps before the she cat collapsed with a grunt as she hit the cold, hard ground.

She could tell that the end was ever so near, her vision cutting in and out as she laid there on the ground.

SIX MOONS LATER

"No Moonsong.. You've never wasted a moment of my life. I'll cary the memory's with me forever.." He whispered to himself and let a small tear drop from his eyes. "I'll take care of our kits Moonsong. Goodbye!" he called out and watched the angelic cat slip through the silver lined water. And with that she was gone like the moon as it hid behind the clouds. And then then it hit him and diveshadow silently sobbed. The cat he had shared a life with, had a lovely romance and started a family together… was gone. just like that, never coming home ever again. Was this really it? could this just be an awful dream? oh please star clan no.

she hugged him back slightly." no, dont be, as a mentor im so proud at the tom that you've become. as a former mate i still care for you, we cant help that things didnt work out as we had planned. i just wish the best for you. ill visit at times when i can." she pulled away and limped down to the water's edge and slipped in before she turned back to the male." im so sorry diveshadow, not for leaving, but for the fact that ive wasted so much of your time. and i hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me..." she mewed softly before she continued on and onto the other side of the bank.

Dive shadow shuffled his paws and searched for words "well.. If it's what you want.. I really hope you find what you're looking for. You've been a great mentor and love to me Moonsong and.. I really hope you'll visit me. I'll miss you truly. Please don't- don't think twice before you come to ask for help if you need it" diveshadow leaned in to hug her. Even though they didn't work out as mates he would always care for her well being. "I'm so sorry" he muttered. He wondered how Wolfstar would redact to yet another warrior slipping away. A part of him didn't want to let her leave and he longed for her to stay in her home where her leg could be taken care of. without a clan.. who knows what could get to her!

"im not going to stay where ill be in the way, i cant provide for the clan anymore diveshadow...and...ive noticed how you've been acting towards me lately. i dont want to cause uneasiness for you any longer...and our kits are basically grown up. they dont need me anymore."

Diveshadow gasped. He had never expected Moonsong to leave mist clan He had always assumed she was a loyal warrior who loved her home. The way she longed at the water, her joy at gatherings, her bright smile as she brought prey into the clan or shared tongues with him in the setting sun. "what's the reasoning? What about our kits?" He asked frantically. The pounding of his heart was much stronger now and he felt like he was going to be sick.

"i have something to talk to you about diveshadow as well.." she sighed and got up and padded to a few feet in front of him. she sighed heavily." diveshadow, im leaving the clans.."

"I couldn't sleep... I keep thinking about something" he took a deep breath and accepted what he had to do. It had clouded his mind for a long time and prevented him from getting a good sleep or keeping his appetite. The stress of his new position as deputy made him feel the need for relaxation even more but even when he tried to rest his mind was storing like a water fall. He felt trapped with anxiety and he needed to let it out. he couldn't keep hiding."we need to talk Moonsong"

she perked her ears as diveshadow called to her." oh? i couldnt sleep so i came out to stretch my legs for awhile." she shifted herself to a comfortable position." what are you doing out here so late?"

Dive shadow wondered to the waters edge and spotted the creamy white warrior. Her white pelt shimmered in the moons smiling light. Her fluffy, thick tail wrapped neatly around her small body and her reflection danced in the slow moving stream. "Moonsong, what are you doing out?" He mewed softly before padding up to her, hoping she wouldn't be startled.

moonsong limped out of the camp so she could stretch her legs a bit. she took the short cut to the river bed and sighed, sitting down and looking into the calm water.

Diveshadow stifled a grim sigh. His thoughts had been bothering him and he couldn't sit any longer. He got up that night to walk around and distract himself. The night breeze was warm and everything was silent. He risked a glance into the apprentice den to look at his kittens and couldn't help but smile as he watched them peacefully dream. He had been very concerned after kestralpaw became pregnant. He hoped non of his daughters would be burdened with kittens while they where still kits themselves. He doubted his sweet, shy sons would get into trouble like that but if they did he would claw their ears off, thats for sure. the thought of his kits reminded him of cloudykit and it crippled him with pain to think of it. He walked towards the river to clear his thoughts.

it was a moon or so later and moonsong was able to get up and walk around alright, just not able to use one of her hind legs.
