Description
First entry to *Failed-romance-x 's "design-a-reaper" contest! This is Marrick, an Archer.Name - Marrick
Gender - stallion
Species - Reaper Unicorn
Role - Archer
Horn - some sort of dark-blueish grey rock, jagged
Eyes - blue, can glow orange at times
Tattoos - orange, rear leg tattoos are symmetrical, front leg tattoo only appears on right leg, face marking is simply lines on the opposite side of his face
Charm and Aura - He has a heart charm and his aura is orange. When I thought of an Archer, I thought of love. The sun is a common symbol for love and passion. Since an Archer deals with the spirits of horses that have died, and when the sun "dies" in a sunset, I decided to make his aura orange, a common color found in sunsets. sun= passion and love->death of sun->sunset->orange
Personality - Marrick is a simple, yet troubled fellow. He is very loving, yet very shy. He is an excellent listener and is truly kind-hearted once you get to know him. But being that person is very rare as Marrick closes off his personal feelings quickly. It is for this reason he does not poke into the lives of those he helps. Instead he is merely there if they need someone to listen and is very good at his job. Despite this Marrick has poor self-confidence and gets through every day only because the next day may hold his reunion with his lost mate. He feels his role as an archer, although it directly contrasts his loner-like ways, is a gift from Delannie herself, as it provides him with a way to search for his lost love.
History - Marrick loved his parents. They were kind to each other and to other Reapers, their sweet nature flowing into their only son. His father was a healer, a role seen as primarily a mare's job, but was brilliant, light hearted, and wise. When Marrick was named an archer, a slightly more noble yet still feminine job, it was his father that consoled his son. But the teasing and name-calling by other colts who were named judges and vanquishers wore on the young archer's self-esteem. As a young foal, Marrick's closest friend was a filly named Caehra (Sara), who stood my him even when others wouldn't.
His mother was a spirit-guide and wasn't home very often. Marrick still loved his mother, he was simply not as close to her as he was to his father. But when his father was tragically killed, Marrick's mother was devastated. She grew withdrawn and isolated, unsure of how anyone could even lessen her grief. Even more distanced from her son than before, Marrick's mother simply didn't return from one of her journeys. Parent-less and still grieving at the loss of his father, Marrick turned to Caehra, also a healer. The pale palomino with a pink aura was a true sweetheart, loved the little things in life, but could be a spitfire and outspoken. She comforted her best friend and, as they were all they had left, the two fell in love. Together all the time and fiercely loyal to one another, Marrick and Caehra traveled from valley to valley, looking for the perfect home.
It wasn't long before Caehra was expecting. The young couple was overjoyed and Marrick grew fiercely protective. One valley they came across seemed particularly promising. There were many inhabitants and they were very welcoming. But the large concentration of Reapers brought trouble as well. Dark spirits roamed the edge of the valley.
Despite Marrick's protests, Caehra insisted that she go collect some herbs and plants. Marrick let her go, not knowing what was about to happen or that he would never be able to forgive himself.
Caehra was ambushed by spirits and by the time Marrick heard her cries she was already dying. Luckily, he reached his mate in enough time to say goodbye, but she was fading fast. It was still to early for the foal, so both were lost. Marrick was devastated and he stayed with his mates body through the night, fighting off the wolves whose eyes glinted in the nearby trees. Morning shed light on the harsh reality of Caehra's death. Marrick wandered away, more withdrawn from others than ever before. But instead of becoming completely pessimistic, Marrick realized that if Caehra had truly loved him, then she would have unfinished business and would therefore need an archer to guide her. If Marrick kept doing his job and continued to search for Caehra, maybe she would come back to him. He became obsessed with his job as an archer and became even better at it than before. His experiences influencing his ability to sympathize with the spirits he helped reunite with their lost loves.
