Thank you! Credit for the angle of the shot, however, goes to the original photographer whose work I used as a reference. Bill Langrish, who has beautiful horse photography!

Amazing work!

Wow, this is awesome! The mane is gentle but still realistic. I know its been said, and you comented to her, but the right side of the face is rather odd looking. I have had lots of pictures where there is a giant shadow and you cant see the face too well, also. I know the feeling. I should probably stop drawing from refrences to fix that problem, but I dont... ;]

Thank you! And yea, same story. My desire is not so much to be able to work without a reference as to be able to work /beyond/ a reference--to know anatomy well enough that in places where I can't make it out in the photo, I can simply recreate it with my understanding. I have no issues with using a reference, and in fact encourage it (especially if it is a live reference, or a high quality collection of photos), but unfortunately I am /married/ to the reference when I draw. Bah!
Many thanks again.

Yah, refrences are great for thoes times that without it you'd be stuck! XD
Sometimes I make something different so that it is my own - I find that I usually do that unconciously anyways! lol

A beautiful and dynamic picture, so full of power! Though I get the impression that the right side of the horse's face looks a little bit flat.

Thanks!
And yea--me and my reliance on the photo reference for proper anatomy had a bit of a problem with that huuuge shadow there, and probably I did not render it to the best it could be. There is a LITTLE more evidence of a jawline in the original, but still had trouble seeing it in the photo, and therefore had some problems drawing it...

I really love the mane in this, you didn't really give him individual strands, just lots of of movement, and it works just excellently!

Hehe. This is my favorite charcoal because he seems so surprised the wind is blowing so hard. Or something. He reminds me of Steve Buscemi (you know, the bug-eyed guy that was in The Island and Armaggedon).
It's a beautiful drawer-ing too!
