Brilliant. You've got some serious atmosphere in this image. You're pretty handy with charcoal, aren't you??

Cheers Paul, charcoal is my first love! I left it alone for a few years to have a go at painting but I've recently rediscovered it and I'm in love again haha!!

You've definitely got the knack. My attempts at charcoal at college looked like a child's drawing had been found after a housefire .
Btw, watched a couple of the films you recommended. Quick thoughts without giving too much away - I found Martyrs quite disturbing. I've not felt like that about a film since I saw 'Man Bites Dog' the first time. The way the twogirls interact is quite well done, and I did guess who, or rather what, the attacker was, but then it went in a totally different direction to what I expected. Very Hellraiser. The scary part is, I could imagine there are people out there willing to go to such extremes! I can see why you wanted to paint the madam, she's quite a character! I quite like Timebenders (I think that was the title?)although if you think about it too much the story falls apart faster than a Steven Moffat finale, but with the Timey-wimey nature of it that's a given, really. The characters were good, and the remorseless way he gets sucked into his own future is really well done. And it all ties in with its own internal logic - I couldn't spot any gaffes. Not at all what I expected from the cover!

Hey Paul, hope you had a brilliant Christmas & New Year mate!
Yep, Martyrs is very disturbing but very powerful I think. You're absolutely right, I can well imagine there are plenty of sick like-minded people out there!
The other one (Timecrimes) is my favourite film at the moment, I think it's so clever and again I must agree it's not the film you expect to see judging by the cover!
By the way, get your charcoals back out & have another go, you might be pleasantly surprised! I'm in the middle of an A4 Cyberman portrait and the charcoal really gives it a 'steely' look, I'll post it when it's done.
All the best for 2012!

Hopefully I'm joining a figure drawing nightclass this year (it's been WAAAY too long since I did any) so I may well get some pastels going on there. Will stop me noodling too much, and just get on with the forms.
Your Fanwnak/TOMTIT/Bandril stuff is looking really good in print (SO glad the name has changed)
Btw, you heard much from Andrew, flobbadob-wise?
Have a good painterly year!!

Great idea! I love life drawing though it's been years since I had a go, I think that was were I first used charcoal way back in the day!
Thanks for the kind words reg fanzine stuff, I just wish I'd set out to do them as covers, they could look so much better!
Haven't heard from Andrew for ages but I hardly go online these days.....
Have fun with your night classes mate!

I did man, my new years was quiet...which is how I like it! haha. I'm having a decent beginning of 2012 - minus the fact that I've been fighting off a head cold for a few days! Talk to you soon.
