Description Capture the experience of being there, the mood, your feelings, the place, the time, everything. I was backpaking, camped by this frozen lake high in Alberta's Northern Rockies. I hadn't seen anyone in four days. It was so beautiful.

I've got the 40D and will be getting the 10-22mm soon, can't wait. Keep up your work!

This is a flawless photo. Wow- I always greatly admire your work, but you've outdone yourself this time.

To me, the horizontal line in the foreground sets the emotional tone here. If the line wasn't there, it would be a COMPLETELY different photo. That line is just so powerful.

Awesome.

I bet been isolated from everything and all made
such a great feeling, I think really connects and brings the nature to yourself...
that bottom-to-center line really did work made my eyes follow through till reaches the sun

Easily one of the best photos I have ever seen and it would be disrespectful of me to critique it, glad your back. I have been wondering since I saw this on photo.net how you got such a perfect sun-star, did you use a star filter?

Use a small aperture first. f/22 here. It helps greatly to use a wide angle lens also (16mm in this case) and to have the sun posistioned against other obstructions such as rock, trees, horizon, etc.

I have done all of those a few times but never end up with this kind of star, they are normally fat things with only 6 points. Would the air purity up there have something to do with it?

the number of aperture blades of your lens has a lot to do with it. I have a Canon EFs 10-22mm lens with 6 blades = 6 point star I guess you have a similar lens?
Marc uses a Canon EF 16-35mm lens with 7 blades = 14 points.
8 blades = 8 points, 9 blades = 18 points etc. with lenses that have an even number of aperture blades, the points of the star overlap, so the effect is not as nice.

Atmospheric conditions do have something to do with it at times. Also, keep in mind that every lens produces different variations of the sun star. This was taken with a Canon 16-35 f/2.8 II L.

it's the number of the aperture blades of the lens that makes the difference.
btw. it's good to see your work here too (finaly! ). I always enjoy your posts at FM forums, but I like to add your work to my favourites od dA too.

It is great to see you posting work on here again

beautiful textures and shapes, there's so much to feast you eyes on in the photograph, and the line in foreground leads directly to the star sun

Marc, this one is really stunning.
The composition is really strong, and the colors are unusual.
