Description
Ok so this is a depiction of how Jesus of Nazareth may very well have looked. After all, there's no mention whatsoever in the Bible as to what he looked like. People always portray him as tall, lean, and handsome. But how do we know he wasn't short, fat, and ugly? (Well, maybe the fat part is unlikely, since it seems during his ministry he was doing a lot of walking and not that much eating)He's also quite angry in this drawing. That's the image I get of him when I read the Gospels. He's always championed as this super-nice guy, but in the Bible he's always being judgemental, rebuking others for their lack of faith, and predicting the bloody end of the world. Dude, lighten up: you're a buzz-kill.

He actually cursed a fig tree for not bearing fruit out of season. Talk about short tempered.

Well, of COURSE He was always angry, etc.! The people weren't exactly being good, faithful Jews at the time. Plus, it was kinda His job to try to get us on the right path.
Anyway, love the art~!

Well I do agree with the bumper sticker "If you're not mad then you're not paying attention!" And any social reformer/revolutionary has to be angry, otherwise why would they be doing what they're doing?
It's just that I don't agree with a lot of the things Jesus was angry about. Like not following "The Law" and such.

Well, you would be angry if, say, you created a club with a single rule: Do not chew gum in the clubhouse, and then someone not only chewed gum in your clubhouse, but also stuck the gum on your seat, wouldn't you?
Just an example~!

He looks less like a savior and more like someone's goofy uncle who attended his Bar Mitzvah after taking a vacation in Miami.

No, I hope that I don't see him because I hope he and God don't exist:
An unalterable celestial dictator who created us, owns us, supervises us waking and sleeping, knows our thoughts, can convict us of thoughtcrime (the essence of totalitarianism), who can create us sick and then command us (on pain of eternal torture) to be well again, who orders us to both love and simultaneously fear him (the essence of sado-masochism. Compulsory love: what a grotesque idea), who can haunt and lord over us even after death and into eternity: To believe this and to wish this to be true is to choose to live as abject slaves and prisoners quivering in the shadow of a tyrant who dwarfs any and all evil rulers in human history.

This is simply the conclusion I drew after reading about this imaginary being in the Bible (the same way that I concluded Sauron was evil when I read Lord of the Rings). So what about the above is wrong in your view?

God is not a dictator.
He did create us, but He is not a tyrant, He gave us free will, we are free agents, to do as we choose.
"Thought crime"? If you mean is it just the same to think of murdering someone as to do it? Yes, If we do that, we are murdering them in our hearts & minds. But this sin can be forgiven also, like any other, if we believe/trust in Christ and truly, genuinely, repent the sin.
God did NOT create us sick. God created us good, We made ourselves sick with sin when we fell (Adam & Eve), we took on sin. Command us to be well again? No, He gives us choice, If we believe on Christ, genuinely repent our sins, we are cleansed of those sins, and we are to try our very best, not to sin again. If we do, we need to repent those sins genuinely. When we die, we become renewed, our bodies are renewed and we no longer sin. The wages of sin is death. When we die, we pay the debt. But without Christ, this would not have been enough. Christ died for the sins of ALL the world.
He wants us to love Him as our Father, He won't force us. Worship, is simply love. That is what God wants of us, our love. As for fear, what He means is a life without Him is something to be feared. It is a kind of spiritual death, Hell is separation from God, and it would be spent (eternal life, but in Hell), with Satan and others who rejected God. God does NOT want to send people there, but He gave fee will, so He will give people what they choose, if they choose Hell, He will give it to them.
We are not slaves, we are set free by God's love. God is not a tyrant, He is a loving Father. God gave ALL of us life! Tyrants don't and can't do that.

βHe is not a tyrant, He gave us free willβ
But even subjects in totalitarian states have free will. Regardless of where that free will came from, they are essentially treated no different than those hypothetical humans that reside within the Christian worldview.
βGod gave ALL of us life! Tyrants don't and can't do that.β
What about a human who created his own form of animal life, and rewarded those who were obdient while torturing those who werenβt? Does a creator automatically have the right to torture and abuse his creations?
βGod did NOT create us sick. God created us good, We made ourselves sick.β
He DOES create us sick though. All humans today are born with sin. Ultimately, who keeps creating these humans? Who else but God?
βHe gives us choice....He won't force us. β
The βchoiceβ God gives us is basically the same thing as holding a gun to our heads. [link]
Oh, and your reference to God as a father was interesting, as I believe that if the Biblical God did exist he would be no better than an abusive parent or spouse. He beats us (with original sin, disease, natural disasters, genetic abnormalities, eternal damnation) and insists that we deserve it, that itβs our fault for disobeying him (in Eden), that despite the beatings and abuse he loves us, and that he wouldnβt have to be doing this if we only loved him like he loves us. What is the difference between such a parentβs theories of child-raising and that of the Biblical God? How are Godβs children treated any better than an abusive parentβs children?
All of these abusive-spouse/parent qualities, however, are magnified manifold in the case of God, because he is infinitely more powerful and his punishment of us is infinitely more extreme. And because, ultimately, he created the universe itself: the arena where this sick game is played.

Canada is majority Christian, it's heritage comes from European Christians, English, French. It's ideals of freedom for it's peoples comes from this 'worldview'. Is Canada not more free than other countries under 'totalitarian' rule?
No human has been able to 'create life'. God does not torture and or abuse his creation.
They are born with sin, because their original parents, Adam and Eve, took on sin by choice, we are their offspring, it is inherited from them. God did not create us sinful, nor did He give us sin. "who keeps creating these humans" Have you not heard of reproduction?
Not at all. Considering that He promised us ALL eternal life, He keeps His word. If some people reject God, and so not want to be with Him, then they choose the same as Satan does, and go to the same place. Considering what Heaven and Hell are like, why would someone choose to send themselves to Hell? Hell is for those who choose evil, so they get what they choose.
We beat ourselves with original sin, disease, natural disasters occur because even all creation is under the burden of our sin, when we took on sin, let Satan influence us, we also handed OUR dominion over this world to Satan, therefore the world is under the rule of evil. Genetic abnormalities come from our original sin, no eternal damnation would be a worry to us if we had not taken on sin, by rejecting God, we say we agree with our sin, want it, cling to it, therefore choose Hell over God, if we do that, we choose Hell, therefore deserve it. We beat ourselves, abuse ourselves. We abuse the love that God has for us. If we all loved Him as He loves us, none of us would go to Hell. But many prefer evil to His love. Abusive parents abuse out of sin, wanting to sin, putting themselves before their own child, God does not do this, God is not an abuser, He is a loving, forgiving parent. Christ is proof of that. Yes, He created the Universe, and all in it, and He intends to redeem as many of us as He can to Himself, but due to free will, He will not force us follow Him like robots, He wants us to love Him by Choice, not force.
But your words in this last paragraph say 'I know God exists, but I choose to reject Him'. An atheist would not argue as such.

You sound like a battered spouse trying to make sense of their abuser's actions through twisted logic.
So God created the Universe and everything in it, but not the bad stuff?
And, upon creating humans, did he know his creation would disobey him and bring all this suffering upon itself?
God is a loving parent because of a gruesome human sacrifice? This was the best method he could come up with?
A truely loving parent would never punish his children as severely as the Biblical God. Sending his kids away to be tortured for eternity accomplishes nothing good. Shouldn't the big guy be more patient with us, given that he's the one who made us so stupid and weak and susceptible to sin.
And God interferes with free will at least twice in the Bible (The Pharaoh in Exodus and Israel's enemy nations in Joshua).
I am quite certain that the God of the Bible does not exist. And I'm glad for that.

Now, don't start CRYIN' because I hurt your SWEET EMOTION. Maybe you should play with the TOYS IN THE ATTIC. Maybe you can find something AMAZING like a RAG DOLL. Of course, you'll need to WALK THIS WAY because someone's MAKING LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR. Or you could just SHUT UP AND DANCE with a DUDE LOOKS LIKE A LADY, or EAT THE RICH until you turn PINK. Just remember, it's not like you have NINE LIVES, so don't give me that SAME OLD SONG AND DANCE about how the DEVIL'S GOT A NEW DISGUISE.
