Here's a quickly done sketch of my final project in my Principals of Fit class. I did it on tracing paper with light pencil... so don't mind it if you can't see too clearly.

Anyway, it's a hybrid between a trench coat and a cape. The cape has been attached to the neckline and shoulder seam and then to the top of the armhole. After that it goes down the back and drops vertically when it hits the waist. The coat will be double breasted with buttons running most of the length of the front. I put the chains on the cape just as an idea for keeping it closed, but I don't what I'll actually put there...

I got the idea to make this out of a book "Period costume for stage and screen" by Jean Hunnisett. The garment was a caped coat from around 1888.
