"Dark shapes dart through the shadows, between pools of light, like wisps of smoke; a brief glimpse of them...and then nothing.Once the sounds of life filled the air, now only the black ash and deep silence all but reign. Through the ruins of civilization, they play, a deadly game of cat and mouse.
This is their happy hunting ground."

4-5 hour speed paint...although i must admit, i fell asleep somewhere between the buildings and the troopers. And i spent more time detailing the lead scout then actually painting the thing since it was supposed to be a rough environmental! My bad...! D:
Anyways, are these the hunters or hunted? You decide...

Great speed paint i love the detail, it feels as if its hard to see very far.
the landscape is quite ominous yet quite friendly(if your not being hunted or hunting), the trooper detail is simply amazing and i love the detail put into the tiniest things such as the thigh straps and the distance troopers.
I still wonder after 6 months if they are the hunted or the hunters, same as that damn chicken question(still cant get that after 10 or so years...).
I know this picture is old but would it be possiable to get concept art of the whole trooper?
Would love to make the suit as a costume.

well judging by their "formation" and the fact that they're running, they're either very eager to reach the prey or they themselve are being hunted.

Good quality on the soldier. The background doesn't have much detail but the lighting in texture is just so good that you don't need it. Oh I was wondering, do you use layers or play with the brightness/contrast tools or settings or do you just do a straight paint with one layer like on a real canvas?

Single layer for the environment, another for the troops, and once im please with it, plop those 2 into 1. Its less to think about and makes it easier when doing these speed painting attempts since you're not trying to make it perfect, but just throwing out an idea.

In all seriousness, how did you achieve that level of realism? It looks like it is real, like that could be possible... I cant get that in my drawings. As for speed paint only being 4 -5 hours? How do you get that quality within that short amount of time? Great work though! Cant wait to see others

Hey man, practice makes perfect, honestly. And of course its helpful if you have some reference photos for inspiration and stuff...the rest, is only limited by what you can imagine.
Oh and one important thing ive learnt is that you shouldnt be afraid to make mistakes while painting digitally, just brush in what you think looks right, if its wrong, just paint over it!

Fantastic. A classic example of a post-apocoliptic world. I especially like that in the author's comments that you don't reveal the nature of the monsters that lurk in the shadows. Leaving it up to the mind of the reader makes them so much more menasing.

they are the hunted. what ever they saw in the pools of light are the hunters. kinda like I AM LEGEND or Primeval (the BBC series not the movie). in primeval future earth is taken over by evolved bats/primates. and they go through a rift in time to the future to save somebodys life and they (the humans) r being hunted by the future predators. good job
