My first sighting of a lapwing in the UK and boy do they look different from the South African ones! They are so pretty.Related content

we have those in Argentina, we call them "teros" because of their sounds, however our teros are another species. Here they are taller, bigger and don't have that long feathers and the pretty colors. Very fierce are they! if you aproach their nests they pursue you with the claws of their wings.
I once saw a dog wich was terrified of that birds, the problem was that the dog was constantly harrased by the peeks and wings and the poor thing didn't know why hahaha

The ones in South Africa also don't have coloured feathers but they are also very, very fierce and protective about their nests.

There are many other varieties of lapwing - red wattled, yellow wattled, grey-headed, sociable (endangered), river and white-tailed. I don't know if there are any other kind in the Europe and other parts of the world.Β

We have the crowned lapwing and the blacksmith lapwing as common in South Africa, but I haven't seen those two over here yet.
