Description Luthien, after Beren left for the Silmarill.

I wanted to call it "Anxiety" but decided not to overdramatize

Yes, it is, thank you for noticing! I wanted the focus to be on the face, that is why I left the hair very basic. Does it spoil the impression? It can still be done. You know, when something is unfinished it is easier to change it, than when it is already "overdone" (especially in watercolors). I made several holes in the paper trying to improve my work once
Yes, I post my fanart to different Tolkien-related groups, and to "tolkien" as well, though it sometimes takes time to get approved. But I don't mind - there are so many talented and professional artists there.

As for Luthien, I like this character, that's why I draw her often

I also prefer watercolours that are not overly done, so I aim at that more or less. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not, but such is the process For me, the beauty of watercolours is in their freedom and fluidity, so I'm happy when I manage to stop before I start "improving" I admire those watercolourists who create highly realistic photo-like works, it is difficult and requires a lot of skill, but prefer less realistic and more liquid paintings. Thank you!
As for groups, I understand what you mean, really some of the artists post very seldom, and I guess it does correspond with the length of time on the platform. And they (and you) probably have some other, more important ways to share art - other platforms, personal exhibitions, fans.
I'm relatively new here and initially created my page just for watching. Then I started painting more, and it turned out very inspiring to share art and hear what people think So, thank you again!

What character were you thinking of?Β

Oh, I can guess that watercolour seascapes must be beautiful! I agree that acrylic or oils should be better for photorealism, but at the same time, it is easier to achieve transparency with watercolours and they are also easier to manage (I mean, the materials are simple and, mostly, accessible, even if good paints and paper can be expensive) especially when one doesn't have a workshop or any special room for painting. Watercolours don't smell and the brushes are easy to clean and so on As for styles, I guess everyone finds their own, which is great , but I noticed that photorealistic watercolours are quite popular, and no wonder that sometimes customers ask your friend for such paintings even though watercolours are not exactly the best medium for that.
I totally agree with you: platforms, where everyone competes for likes, are tough and often demotivating. And I also agree that this platform is more about artists and for artists. I feel somehow safe here

Concerning FinwΓ«, the problem might actually be in my tendency to draw male elves more feminine and female more masculine and as the results, they all look alikeΒ

Yes, watercolours are tricky, they allow much less control than other media and can be unforgiving. The hardest thing for me sometimes is just to let it go the way it goes It must be something psychological, too. It is great that they become popular in digital art and I'm sure that the blend of digital and traditional can become something truly amazing.
Yes, you are right, this platform is more vulnerable than the others in this respect, and we can't make our art space a friends-only zone.Β
I'm not sure I do this intentionally, except in some cases, when it was specified in the book like in the second name ofΒ  Galadriel - Nerwen or Nerdanel, that both have the element that means "man". It's more about my understanding of elvish beauty, I think. I feel that elves are supposed to have fine features, big eyes, long hair, etc. but that can easily be overdone But I'm happy that they don't look too alike, thank you!

I think, there's always a risk of some groups and cliques forming, unfortunately. Here I also noticed sometimes that some works get a storm of comments and support and some get none. Well, life is life What we can do is continue creating and improving for arts own sake or for our friends
Yes, it would really be interesting to know, how Tolkien himself imagined his elves and men. And I also understood that men and elves were not supposed to be very different. Otherwise, they wouldn't be attracted to each other.
Oh, Andersen! What a wonderful storyteller His tales are beautiful and so diverse. I agree some stories are art in themselves. I haven't read anything by Tamora Pierce, in fact, but it is always great to read something new. Can you recommend anything?

You are right, of course, promoting art involves hard work and knowing the right people. And these days, it also requires skills in SMM. Some of the artists I know, who earn money with their art, took courses to learn how to promote on digital platforms, and it's hard work still. That's why I think keeping art as a hobby is way easier (if possible)
Thanks for the recommendation! The description looks interesting.
As for fairy tales as a child I liked quite traditional things: Charles Perrot, Grimm brothers, Andersen, of course, Wilhelm Hauff, Tove Jansson, Selma LagerlΓΆf and Astrid Lindgren. And some Russian fairytales, of course, mostly those collected by M. Afanasiev and P. Bazhov (The Malachite Box, The Stone Flower). I still like some of these stories, and with age, I understood that they are definitely not just (or not at all) for kids.Β
If we talk about the fantasy books, I quite enjoyed Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, the first two books of "The Kingkiller Chronicle" by Patrick Rothfuss, "Eragon" series by Christopher Paolini and "The Wheel of Time" by Robert Jordan. Have you read these?

I always considered Mio my Son a fairytale , though I know now that it was inspired by quite a sad episode of Lindgren's life. As for Karlsson or Emil, I agree, they're not fairytales, just stories.
Do you mean Paradise Lost by Milton or some other story? I read some of Milton as part of my English Philology studies, but not much, to be honest. Should give it another try, thank you!

I shall definitely read it then! I still have in my BritLit Anthology
(Now I want to re-read Mio as well
I loved Moomin in primary school, but I heard since then, that there are a lot of quite philosophical ideas in Jansson's books. Part of the problem could be that Moomin is quite a brand these days, at least here, in Finland. I don't mind, but some things can be lost in the process.
