Last Challenge: check!

This sketch was actually close to 3 years old now. Yes, that's in fact how long I've been working - or not working - on this.
Let's have a short flashback to when I drew it: It was in 2008, late October or early November, only thing I know is that it was after my autumn break and it's been the work I was most proud of for ages. After my boyfriend gave me the rough idea for this, it turned out better than I could've ever expected, and until then I never managed to draw something as detailed as this.
Next stop: May 2009, [link] a proof of the time I was hardly working on the lineart. I wanted to make this a masterpiece of mine, trying to do a detailed SA styled lineart (or something similar to what =Pamf herself does), and it took ages.
October 2009: The catastrophe! A horrible mistake deleted my whole artwork folder, including others' work, work for me and my own. Important Photoshop files lost forever. From then on I lost my motivation to keep on working. Doing such a difficult lineart all over again? No, never! A few months later when I recovered many of the lost files and caught new motivation to work, I decided to ink and colour this traditionally instead and started a lineart on paper. However, I didn't expect certain colours like that pale yellow to be such a pain to colour. So some time during 2010 it ended up in another corner... again.
Then, a few months ago, I dug it out again and decided to give it a try and colour the traditional lineart digitally: a failure, it looked horrible. I made a sketchy lineart above it, fixing a few things on the original I didn't like that much anymore, colouring that one: I wasn't satisfied either.
Finally, I told myself to redo a proper digital lineart, in my common style. Add the colours, in my common style. And don't hide from that very last challenge of doing a proper background.
And during the whole drawing process it wouldn't ever stop driving me insane~ now here we are!

Yeah, the picture speaks for itself, doesn't it? Dero and Gitz surrounded by some weird robots. Yes, they are surrounded, by tha awesomesauce copy-paste robot army! You could say we're part of the robots as well, because there are also some standing in our direction. (Imagination, baby! 8]) And yes, there are also houses and skyscrapers on fire all around them, not only from behind, that's why they're still rather "bright" as the light doesn't only come from behind.
Oh and I can't help it, but the robot in the front just came out too cute... way too cute for me to dare changing it into something more... evil, fitting the scene... ;^;
The sky was inspired - those who know it have probably recognized it instantly - from the intro sequel of the Shadow the Hedgehog game. I kinda like these kinds of backgrounds... so evil... hurrhurr.
So... will they be able to compete with that mass of robots and survive? Or will the evil robots take revenge for their defeated buddy? To be continued within the next episode~
