Very nice! Did you make this? If so, do you by any chance accept commissions for these sorts of things? No worries if you don't, I'm just desperate to find a good Lina Inverse costume, hopefully without paying an arm and a leg lol.

Anyway, you did fantastic! Very lovely.

maridah In reply to MadRatBird [2011-08-18 18:48:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Yes, I made it several years ago (2008). I don't take commissions, sorry. It takes much more time than I have free to do them and the cost of materials and labor would make things extremely expensive. Unfortunately, I don't think you can get a good Lina commissioned for less than an arm and a leg. I've had a number of people ask me for one at this point, and from what one of the girls said, she was quoted something like $400+ from a tailor... and tbh, that's less than I would charge for all that work considering all that goes in to a costume like this. Best of luck, though. Truth be told, the cheapest method of obtaining a cosplay costume is by making it yourself if you can.

Ah, it's fine! Was just wondering. And $400? Yeah, I suppose you're right - I should either suddenly squeeze out talent for that sort of thing or just buckle up and purchase one of the premade costumes online or some such thing. Thanks so much for your reply and advice - keep up the good work. <3.

maridah In reply to MadRatBird [2011-08-18 20:05:55 +0000 UTC]

No problem! Yeah, $400 seems like a crazy amount, but considering the material for the costume and cape plus the armor and accessories (which involves resin casting among other things) it all adds up to a lot of material cost and labor. On mine, I easily spent $200+ on it and that's not taking labor cost in to account like a commissioner would. I feel that I get out easy on cosplay costumes since I do make them myself since it's so ungodly expensive otherwise. If you have a friend who could maybe help you out along the way, I'd give making it a shot. There are some really good tutorials out there on craft foam armor (mine isn't craftfoam here, but I wish it was since mine weighs a ton and craft foam would work just as well but be lighter.)

Yeah. I've seen only a few really awesome costumes centered around this character, everything else though seems 'okay' compared to yours and few others. I'm tempted to make it, or at least go to Goodwill and get some clothing parts that could work to suffice, because I do know someone who sews, she just has no time and she lives a few states away from me. I'll try to find some of those tutorials you mentioned, too. Thanks so much for all this advice, again, so I think if worst comes to worst I'll wind up giving making it a shot. <3.

It would be nice! It'll be my first cosplay of a character that isn't original. Thanks again. .

kappalizzy In reply to maridah [2011-01-27 21:01:45 +0000 UTC]

Ya gotta let me know on weapon and the jewels. Love to know, ya recommand paper clay or Model magic for the shoulders?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

maridah In reply to kappalizzy [2011-01-28 04:08:38 +0000 UTC]

I made my jewels out of resin. Craft stores have supplies for mixing and pouring resin.
I didn't use paperclay or model magic on my shoulders, so I don't know what would work better for you. This page has my construction notes : [link]

wow u are amazing. Thanks I appreciate this. As for Shoulders what u use

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

maridah In reply to kappalizzy [2011-01-28 20:56:03 +0000 UTC]

The supplies are listed on that page in the section that talks about wonderflex. It's a wonderflex shape with a gessoed surface and the trim is made of Milliput. It's very heavy though so I would actually recommend using Sintra or craft foam instead of what I used. If I remake them to be lighter, I will put up pictures. That won't be until later this year, however.

This is amazing!! How did you manage to find the right jewels for the costume?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

maridah In reply to Cerra-chan [2009-08-22 18:15:11 +0000 UTC]

I mixed and poured the resin for them myself (after some trial and error- humidity effects resin drying and I had to learn the hard way)
You can buy clear resin and dye, and make your own jewels. It's easy to do

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cerra-chan In reply to maridah [2009-08-29 07:54:33 +0000 UTC]

Awesome!! I'll have to try that. Also, how did you make the shoulder blades? Armor is such a pain in the butt, and I'm completely lost on what materials I should use. Hope this isn't bothering you. >_>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

maridah In reply to Cerra-chan [2009-08-29 18:35:46 +0000 UTC]

Not a bother ^_^ The shoulder armor is actually a number of materials, mostly wonderflex, milliput, gesso, and resin (for the gems)...but the way I made it isn't what I would want to recommend to anyone because the end result is so heavy, kind of difficult to do, took forever, and was expensive.
I would recommend using either Sintra or Craft foam for it.
I'm working on some armor making tutorials since I have been asked about the process on these and on my Saber a lot, and I want to be able to provide a link with better info than I can just give in text in the future. Eventually, this will be where that will be: [link] I would check there in a month or so for a walk through the process.

Those boots are amazing! I want to cosplay Lina, but the boots have me stumped, do you mind disclosing your source?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

maridah In reply to chibified [2009-04-22 03:37:59 +0000 UTC]

They were something I found on ebay. The brand on them is chadwicks, but it there are plenty of boots that pop up there from different makers that are similar.

chibified In reply to maridah [2009-04-25 18:29:38 +0000 UTC]

One more question. Is the yellow "leotard" part at the bottom of your costume an actual leotard under your tunic or are they just like a bathing suit bottom?

Since the yellow on the tunic can't really be attached to that part since it's over the rest of the tunic, I've always been confused as to how to go about that. I figured doing a leotard underneath and putting that strip of fabric OVER the tunic would work, but I just wanted some outside input.
