Last Time
Mary Jane had witnessed a strange light emitting from the forest and she went on her own to investigate while Shannel slept soundly. Mary Jane made an encounter with Sora and despite that they were being defensive at first, they shared all of their secrets. Mary Jane asked Sora not to let anyone know that they met that night. At least for now.
Scene 5
“You have to promise to keep it a secret!” Sora told Riku and Roxas in the kitchen of their apartment. It was the weekend 3 days after Sora had met Mary Jane and he couldn't hold in the secret any longer.
“So, Mary Jane needs to come into the city and she needs your help?” Roxas asked.
“You mean, OUR help.” Rika added, annoyed, already expecting the burden to spread onto him.
“I think it's worth looking into.” Sora said, taking a drink from his glass on their dinner table. Riku leaned against the counter unimpressed.
“Sora, she didn't even tell you why she needs to come into the city. How do you know she's trustworthy?” Riku asked, peeling a tangerine. He was always the first to finish eating and during all of this, Roxas poked at his food in thought.
“If you were there, you would understand. She wont hurt anyone.” Sora explained.
“I agree with Sora.” Roxas finally said, and the others quickly turned away from each other to hear his thoughts. “When I saw the girl at the bench, there was something about her as well. I can understand Sora when he says it's safe...there's something about that girl that makes me need to know more.”
“Fine.” Riku said, walking out, thinking that the boys were living in a fantasy. “Do what you want, just keep me out of it. I know nothing.”
Sora and Roxas smiled at each other in content. Riku almost never wins an argument against them because they almost always agree on everything.
--
“So, we'll enroll them in class?” Sora asked Roxas. They were now at the computer planning a way to allow the girls into the city without standing out as strangers.
“Yeah, they can be new students. The drama club has been complaining about their low staff so their will to have new students will blind them from anything suspicious.” Roxas explained.
“That makes sense. I didn't know you were so smart.” Sora said. “But, you ARE my nobody, so...”
Roxas laughed sarcastically as he printed two fake birth certificates and identifications. With his keyblade, he was able to hack into all legal files of citizenship on the island and use them for modification help.
“There's only one problem left.” Roxas said. “Their ears.”
“Well,” Sora started, “their ears should be easy enough to cover up with a hat or hair accessory but...i don't know about their tails.”
Roxas looked at Sora with a confounded manifestation. “Tails? The girl I saw didn't have a tail.”
“Really?” Sora asked, remembering Mary Jane's tail very clearly when it curled around her as she sat down next to him in front of the fire. He remembered it well because he noticed it right before his attention was brought to her curvaceous hips. Sora shook his head. “No, MJ definitely had a tail. Maybe the girl you saw was different.”
“MJ? You've already thought of a nickname for her?” Riku asked, who was listening on their entire conversation on the couch behind them. Sora's eyebrows arched.
“Relax Riku, it's just to simplify things.” He said, trying to ignore his implication of attachment. Roxas stood up and straightened his hair quickly before grabbing his phone and the certificates from the desk.
“Okay. Let's head down to the school.”
=======================================================
“We can't go into the city! We talked about this!” Shannel told Mary Jane, who was serious about getting involved in this world. They were walking in the forest now. Mary Jane was secretly leading Shannel to the broken cabin as the sun was setting, waiting for the perfect moment.
“We have to! We've made no progress in finding your sisters spirit since we got here and we don't have forever.” Mary Jane reminded Shannel.
“How do you expect to fit in?” Shannel asked with an arched brow. Mary Jane stuttered. She was going to have to tell Shannel about her encounter with Sora eventually. After all, Shannel was about to meet him very soon.
“Don't get mad.” Mary Jane warned. “I met someone-”
Shannel was about to raise her voice when Mary Jane stopped her. “Wait! I met someone who is experienced with world travel. He knows we're not from here and he's determined to keep that secret and help us.”
“How can we trust him?” Shannel asked, concerned. Mary Jane smiled at her.
“This is not the adventurous, out-going Shannel that I'm used to. What are you afraid of?”
Shannel looked serious for a few moments more until she smiled back. “You're right. I guess all this stress is taking a toll on me.”
The girls stopped on their pace and hugged tightly for a few seconds, sharing a moment of unbreakable friendship. When they released each other, Mary Jane grabbed Shannel's hand, and pulled her into the forest even further.
“I want you to meet him tonight.” Mary Jane told her.
“What?” Shannel asked, confused.
“He's going to explain everything about how he's going to help us in the city. You can ask him any questions you have, just don't tell him about Lida's spirit.”
Mary Jane opened the creaky door and guided Shannel into the room where she and Sora had their conversation. They sat on the old couch silently, ignoring the springs under their bottoms and fiddling with their feet, trying to relieve the awkwardness.
“His name is Sora.” Mary Jane explained. “We're here a little early, but he should arrive shortly.”
Shannel was about to respond when the girls heard a a sound that was like plopping mud outside of the cabin.
“Seriously? You know this is your fault.” An unfamiliar voice said.
“Why would you where your best clothes to a place like this, anyway?” Sora replied. Mary Jane's eyes widened.
“That was Sora.” She said, getting up. “Who's he talking to?”
Shannel followed Mary Jane outside of the cabin and both girls stood in front of the door with astound expressions. Sora was just at the steps, wearing his favourite outfit and a leather jacket with red patches around the pockets, appearing as though he was just about to enter, He turned over to face Roxas, who was covered in mud from head to toe due to falling in a dirty pond that was created during the rain the night before. He sighed heavily in annoyance and Sora chuckled.
“Hey, MJ!” He said in a good mood. The nickname plastered a redness on Mary Jane's face.
“Are you alright?” Shannel asked Roxas, trying to see his face from behind the mud.
“No.” Roxas said with an annoyed tone as he tried to stand up without slipping again. He failed. Sora and Mary Jane laughed as Shannel held out her hand to assist Roxas. She wished she could see his face. At first he hesitated but he took her hand and was able to stand with success.
“Thank You.” He said out of courtesy and began stomping the way he came.
“Roxas? Where are you going?” Sora called as he went after him, followed by the girls. Roxas led them out to the beach and walked onto the extended wooden dock and continued his quick pace to the edge. Sora and the girls jogged on the dock to catch up, thumping and creaking the wooden stakes beneath their feet as they made their way. When they reached Roxas, he ignored their presence and jumped off the pier, diving head first into the ocean. After the sound of the splash silenced, they waited for Roxas to resurface. Sora laughed.
“That takes care of the mud.” He said, pointing with his thumb. It was then when Roxas came up for air and shook his head to move his hair from his face. His spikes had now been over powered by the water and were overlapping each other as they pointed down and dripped from their tips. Roxas swam to the dock and lifted himself up back on the pier and gave them each a pathetic expression.
Shannel was frozen in place. What a surprise to see that the boy under the mud was this incredibly attractive young man, who's body was exposed through the wet transparency of his white, checker-patterned top. She couldn't think of anything else except keeping it cool...which was impossible with Roxas' body fully exposed. Roxas held his hand to his chest.
"I'm Roxas." He said in a breathy voice, still recovering from the speed walk and dive.
"Shannel." She answered, talking to both boys. Roxas stared at her black ears that framed her face and held is breath as though breathing would blow them away like a dream. When he finally exhaled, he spoke again.
"W-what world are you guys from?" Shannel and Mary Jane looked at each other in search for answers but they shrugged.
"We don't really have a name for it." Shannel answered.
"Well, welcome to Destiny Islands." Roxas said with a sweet smile. He didn't ask why they were here or how long they plan on staying. That didn't concern him. Roxas wanted nothing more then to befriend the girls and welcome them into their world with open arms. He was a sweetheart that way.
"Thank You." Mary Jane answered in a hurry. "Sora? Did everything work out?"
"Oh, right." Sora replied as though he was caught in a daze. What was he thinking about? He reached into his back pocket and pulled out his wallet that was marked with a crown. He opened it up and pulled out two identification cards and two slips of paper. "There are going to be your ID's."
The girls took the cards and read the labels.
"Nicole and Nina Divine?" Mary Jane asked with a sour tone. "Those aren't our names..."
"Uh, yes, well, your names don't really fit in around here and it's better to keep a low profile." Roxas explained. "You've already been enrolled as new students at our school. You're going to pretend to be twin sisters. And, we also put you in the drama club."
"What? This is how you help us get into the city? I'm not taking any classes." Mary Jane complained.
"Relax, Mary Jane." Shannel fluttered her eyes as she said this with a persistent voice. "You got to be a little more outgoing."
Mary Jane caught the comment and rolled her eyes. Shannel was into the idea now, but Roxas was her inspiration more than anything. Sora checked the time on his watch and quickly put his wallet away.
"I have to head out. It's my turn to make dinner." Sora said in a hurry.
"Sora, wait!" Mary Jane stopped him and he turned around. "Where are we going to live?"
Roxas squeezed the water out of his shirt as he paced slowly after Sora. "I guess you'll have to crash with us."
"What?" Sora was shocked. "They can't live with us! Riku would hate the idea for sure. Plus it's not right... having women in the apartment?"
"Sora, they can't live out here!" Roxas said with a tone slightly above Sora's. And he was right. The girls has scrapes on their bodies and were living with one change of clothes for weeks. It was hardly civil.
"Alright, but your telling Riku." Sora told Roxas.
"Fine." Roxas said, fearless. Mary Jane started walking with attitude, brushing Sora's shoulder and stopped when her back faced them.
"We don't need babysitters." She said as though she was insulted. She had fended for herself her entire life and took care of not just herself, but for her brothers. She didn't want them to think she was anything below them. Shannel nodded, agreeing to her statement.
"It's not babysitting. It's rent." Sora said. "Trust me, babysitting is not what Riku will agree to."
Mary Jane couldn't argue. She knew they had to stay with them.
"So... just us in an aprtment with three boys?" Shannel said, uneasy.
Mary Jane face palmed herself.
